Excellent 5.1 Mix

5 Stars
Posted Thursday, February 2, 2017 by Anonymous While you can always argue about certain choices on a remix like this, the bottom line is that this is a truly great set of tracks that are vastly improved by what turns out to be an excellent multi-channel treatment. I have listened to this set since it first came out in the 1970s and listening to this SACD in 5.1 was nonetheless a whole new experience. While Blow By Blow is at least as good a set of tracks (and arguably better), Wired gets more out of the surround sound treatment - at least for my ears. Great sound, great mix, great music and without question one of my favorite 5.1 discs. Very highly recommended.

Posted Saturday, January 28, 2017 by Cellerino Bernardino Despite being an SACD with self proclaimed "high resolution mastering" this hybrid disc is a poor recording - clear, but flat and lifeless. What's worse, the versions of songs like "Light my Fire", "In My Life", and "California Dreaming" are not the hit versions that we all listened to in our youth but rather less desirable alternative takes that I've never heard before. A huge disappointment - don't waste your money.

Excellent alternative to the stereo mix

5 Stars
Posted Tuesday, December 13, 2016 by Hal Broome Less reverb than the notorious "swimming pool" stereo version, and Jack's bass comes off more clearly, proving he was the rock foundation of the band. In the quieter moments, you can appreciate more the wistfulness and uniqueness of this classic San Francisco band, undiluted by the stereo shenanigans of Marty and Grace's voices coming from dueling speakers (although there is something to be said for that, as well!). Seems a waste that MoFi is finally putting out JA SACDs and not using the 4.0 multichannel mixes that exist, but I'll be happy enough if they follow up with Baxter's and Crown on SACD!

Posted Sunday, December 11, 2016 by Blotto Have the original WB vinyl -----that 50 year old is superior to this SACD.... ????????? Right now I am using this " Soundsmith" SACD as a coaster for my scotch glass as I listen to the old vinyl pressing that many would agree comes from the company that poorly recorded more great music than any other label-- and it still is better than this ""audiophool " edition.... I am not prone to writing critical reviews BUT this Disc ' takes the cake' if you know what that really means.

Totally Awesome !

Posted Tuesday, October 18, 2016 by Stephen Bieth I have been very pumped since I heard this was coming out. To be honest I find rock releases hit and miss on SACD and tend to buy more Jazz in the format but I have really enjoyed the mastering on APO titles. Well they didn't let me down. This is an excellent recording! I must of played Machine Gun (the song) ten times last night. This disc has such full sound it was like almost being there, the bass is warm and the highs are not too bright. Perfectly balanced mastering. I really hope they will release more of his music on SACD. I tend to lean towards MoFi for rock releases but APO has hit this one out of the park (they did an excellent job with the Beach Boys as well). I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this SACD. Now can they get the licences for the Traffic albums because they were made for high res and the flat transfer of John Barleycorn from Japan just didn't cut it!

What a shame

Posted Monday, September 12, 2016 by Steve B I was very pumped when I saw this coming out. I love Ferry and Roxy and have a number of SACD's for both. I thought this would be a favourite but unfortunately no. The sound on this very's a lot. Tracks like Dance away sound good but Tokyo Joe actually has distortion on it. Then some other tracks thin out all together. I know these songs have been collected from different sources (albums) so there would be some difference but this is too much! I listened to it the day I received and just put it on again this weekend and I turned it off 4 tracks in. What a drag

Posted Monday, May 16, 2016 by Anonymous I've always loved this album, the DCC gold cd WAS my go to copy. When I saw that MoFi was releasing a sacd version I knew that I had to hear it. My opinion: this new sacd is a revelation, a very wide soundstage & great clarity with lots of detail. IMHO this sacd beats the DCC hands down. This may even be THE best sacd from MoFi so far! Five stars & my highest recommendation! I can't wait for Heartbeat City on sacd from MoFi.

Mobile Fidelity outdid themselves with this one

5 Stars
Posted Friday, January 30, 2015 by Bruce K Mobile Fidelity really outdid themselves with this one. Dynamics and texture like I've never heard from this record. MFSL releases sometimes EQ too bright (in my opinion). Pronounced Lehnerdskynrd and Allman Brothers Brothers & Sisters are the perfect examples. Not this time. Sounds like no extra compression, and no extra EQ. If they used any, you can't tell, which is how it should be (in my opinion). I've got an original pressing in good condition, and this absolutely blows it away. The way DSD should sound.

Amazing

5 Stars
Posted Friday, November 22, 2013 by Tony It would be pointless for me to write about the songs or to say this is one of the better albums of all time. I will say spend the $$$ for this one don't worry about the amount it's the most amazing analogue oriented mixes ever. You will get chills up and down your spine when you hear Will Love me Tomorrow and georgeous harmonies...so often through this album you will say this sounds so life like, so much like it would sound if Carole King was sitting in your livingroom playing the piano. You will often hear light harmonies and sounds you didn't hear on previous releases. I had the SACD by Sony and this one blows it away by miles and miles...i'm just amazed by this release and to be honest previoiusly i knew the album was great but never really cared for the mix now it's all changed...i like her voice up front and alot of piano...and you hear other instruments but this person or persons got it so right...don't deny yourself access to one of the

dynamite!

5 Stars
Posted Friday, November 30, 2012 by adrian naunton Its been a very long wait for some elvis on sacd! This disc is frankly spectacular and sounds better than any previous digital release for sure. It was a real joy to listen to such a beautiful clear sound. Tracks such as "love me" sounded like elvis was in the room. All the tracks revealed so many little details i have never heard before. For me "in the ghetto" was a revelation as i have always thought it sounded a bit muddy, not so here as it sounded more alive than i would have thought possible. Fingers crossed for many more elvis releases this good!

Very Hissy

1 Stars
Posted Thursday, February 17, 2011 by SteveK Sounds like this taken from a tenth generation tape. This is the hissiest CD or SACD I've ever heard. One can hear print through from the tape during quiet passages. Very disappointing as it is such a great album. It images well, etc, but hiss hiss hiss and print through on a $60 disc...you've got to be kidding me!

Incredible New Re-release

5 Stars
Posted Saturday, May 28, 2005 by Anonymous I originally bought this album in '83 and played it until I got sick of it. So I was somewhat hesitant to order it now, yet I was intrigued at the thought of a hybrid version. The new SACD is so good that I was stunned when I first played it. Friends also listened to it yesterday and we all agreed that you can hear sounds that you didn't know were there. It's a perfect mix. There are no gimmicks and the band and their great music are the shining stars. If you've listened to this recording a thousand times or if it's new to you, I recommend it highly. You might also check out "Sailing To Philadelphia" on DVD-A and "Shangri-La" on SACD. Quality guitar and music.
