SHM-SACD (Super High Material SACD) is the ultimate Super Audio CD that utilizes the materials and technologies that were developed for the SHM-CD to further enhance the audio-resolution. These discs are made with polycarbonate developed for the screen of the liquid crystal display. As it has a higher transparency, players can read the signal more faithfully. Also, it excels in fluidity, which enables you to cast a more accurate pit. What works wonders for a low resolution format such as CD should offer even greater sonic improvements in a real high resolution format such as SACD.

- Two-channel SACD layer only, to secure enough reflectance and not to compress DSD file.
- Label of the disc is printed with a special green ink called 'Onsho Shiyou,' which minimizes diffuse reflection.
- Carefully selected master audio is used, from existing DSD files to newly converted from analog tapes.

Mark Knopfler's spare, tasteful guitar lines and distinctive vocals mark their self-titled debut album of bluesy tunes that even on first listen, sound as if you've just wandered into a local pub to hear a great rock band over a beer. Thanks to the Top 10 hit "Sultans of Swing," Dire Straits was a major success in both Britain and America, with the single and album climbing into the Top 10 on both sides of the Atlantic.

Like everyone who is a Dire Straits fan, I continuously looked for remastered copies of all their releases. After getting this at home and playing it, I think I've found the "nirvana" I was looking for. Instrumentation was like I've never heard before and the placement made you feel like you were sitting square center of the band and taking it all in. All of the SACD versions from Dire Straits are terrific, I also have purchased Love Over Gold and simple sat back awed at what I was hearing. This is a CD well worth the price because when you really like a piece of music from a good band, any price is worth it.

Excellent SACD

As a teenager I originally purchased Dire Straits debut album on vinyl when it was first released. Years later picked up the red book CD and it just wasn't the same.

This SACD blows my red book CD away. Excellent dynamics and clarity. It really does a fine job of capturing the nuances of Mark Knopfler's fantastic guitar playing. The twang and tone from his Fender Telecaster on "Setting me up" and the expressive leads from his Stratocaster on "Sultans of Swing" really come to life. I am pleasantly surprised!

Strong songwriting coupled with good musicianship and a good quality recording results in a fantastic album.

It's an expensive SACD but was one of my favourite albums growing up. Glad I now have it in this format.

Sounds like this taken from a tenth generation tape. This is the hissiest CD or SACD I've ever heard. One can hear print through from the tape during quiet passages. Very disappointing as it is such a great album. It images well, etc, but hiss hiss hiss and print through on a $60 disc...you've got to be kidding me!
