Outstanding debut from the avant-garde composer and trumpeter
Remastered from the original analog tapes by Bernie Grundman
Featuring jazz icons Ron Carter, Charlie Persip and Jaki Byard
At the time of this release, Down Beat Magazine predicted that Ellis could become the "most important brass soloist since Miles Davis" and awarded the International Jazz Critics Award for best New Star. That excitement was rooted in Ellis as an artist who had gone from Glenn Miller's band to the avant-garde scene beside Charles Mingus and Eric Dolphy, showing himself as a creative force who would no-doubt push jazz itself forward.
...How Time Passes made good on the promise Ellis showed, and stands as a landmark of "Third Stream Jazz," which integrated music into the bold experimentation that defined the late '50s and '60s jazz scene. Long out of print, Candid has finally restored the original art and recruited Bernie Grundman to bring the original master tapes back to life and put listeners back to the moment Ellis emerged as a singular artist who would go on to influence classical, and film music.
