A Psych Ride, Dream of an album. Hold on!

5 Stars
Posted Monday, March 10, 2025 by MP Man oh man, this album is electrifying! From the driving basslines to the kaleidoscopic guitars, the album's adventurous ride will keep you engaged, and its impact was undeniable in shaping the modern psych-rock and garage scenes of the 2010s. It not only marked a key moment in the band's evolution but also in my life in the early 2010s in Southern California.

If you like raw energy, elements of psychedelia and just organized chaos, this LP has got it. It's a sound that feels both modern, vintage AND innovative in a weird way. I remember the first time listening to it, drug free of course ( you won't need any with this album), an exhilarating ride through twisted guitar riffs, dynamic rhythms, and then John Dwyer's distinctive howling vocals... It was a breath of fresh air in a music scene already rife with retro influences, and Carrion Crawler/The Dream cemented Thee Oh Sees as one of the most exciting and innovative bands of their era (along with Ty Segal

Gordon Lightfoot - Sundown Product No: AFRM 9921

Posted Friday, February 28, 2025 by Iain M My copy is pretty much dead quiet. Great sound overall. Slightly bright, but I suspect the original was given the era. I wasn't sure of the "gold" coloured pressing as often coloured pressings have more noise (at least that's my sense). This is really dead quiet. My record is mostly flat but had a little warp at the edge that is visible when playing, but nothing that's causing playback problems.

Great Pressing

5 Stars
Posted Friday, September 20, 2024 by Anonymous I was unsure about this pressing. After all, I am sure this was not a high-volume release. But, when I dropped the stylus, I heard...nothing.

This pressing is very quiet. Very nice. If you are a DC5 fan, add this to your collection.

Dead Quite!

5 Stars
Posted Tuesday, January 16, 2024 by Simon I understand this was remastered digitally as stated but to me this sound outstanding and dead quite. What an album! I have a CH I1 for what it's worth. Don't hesitate if you are a fan.

Van at his best-again.

5 Stars
Posted Saturday, January 13, 2024 by James Van Morrison has never disappointed me in his long career, this album is no exception. Vocals are brilliant, Morrisons alto sax is stellar and the backing musicians are as good as it gets. This album puts the listener in a good mood with the upbeat tempo.

One My Favorites from Clapton!

5 Stars
Posted Sunday, November 19, 2023 by Anonymous I thought this was a great album even though some of the Clapton faithful seemed to be disappointed in it when originally released. Granted, not in step with his usual style but a top shelf collection of songs in my humble opinion. I got into this release after hearing "It's in the Way that You Use It" from the movie, "The Color of Money". After I brought it home, way back in the mid-80's, there were many tracks as good or better. "Run" and the duo with Tina Turner, "Tearing Us Apart" are awesome! My original copy was worn out, so I bought this one as a replacement. As usual, Acoustic Sounds did not disappoint, and the quality was impeccable. Flat, quiet and rich soundstage! I've never been disappointed with anything I've purchased here, and "August" was no exception.

Exceeded expectations

5 Stars
Posted Monday, October 16, 2023 by William Taylor I was on the fence about buying Aerosmith studio albums or just going with their greatest hits, as I'm not a hardcore fan, but I'm so glad I purchased this double LP. It's a reminder of how well constructed a lot of their songs are. The remastering is excellent, and the surface noise on my copy is minimal. I kept pumping the volume up because that's the way this music wants to be played!! Thumbs up all the way

Pleasantly surprised

4 Stars
Posted Tuesday, October 3, 2023 by William I decided to take the leap, despite owning most of ELP's studio albums, because I've liked most most of the albums I've purchased with half- speed mastering (early Who, Roxy Music/Avalon, some Stones, etc.). In short, ELP never sounded better. Thumbs up on the mastering job. It's got punch, clarity, and separation. The Barbarian blew me away.

Traversing the Line between Jazz & Blues.

5 Stars
Posted Thursday, November 24, 2022 by Ricke A Gazda "A Night In San Francisco" (Van Morrison Release 1994) Van shouts out Georgie Fame and a Jazz vocalist entered my ears with a smoothness of silk. That small portion of that release played in my head for years. A month ago I stumbled upon this release: "Cool Cat Blues" and was totally blown away. Georgie's voice, the arrangements and high wire act that connects Jazz with the Blues is tremendous. He joins once again with Van Morrison on "Moondance" which throws me right back to that 1994 Morrison release. He then adds Boz Scaggs to the mix along with the remainder of the entourage of cuts completes this package. As a Blues enthusiast, I can not come up with another release that travels this path with such completeness. Close your eyes and picture the wardrobe of the "Dick Van Dyke" show and the performances during their house parties within their New Rochelle home. This will take you there. All this great music and time travel too! Don't miss this one!!!!

Posted Sunday, September 25, 2022 by Stephen Whittaker What a brilliant release by Jeff Baxter! The sound quality is absolutely first rate. The tracks are quite diverse and the remakes of Steely Dan tunes in particular are superb. This is a great addition to my collection and will be in regular circulation for some time.

Posted Sunday, January 16, 2022 by Christian Not a bad-sounding record. The center hole was a bit tight, but it still fit on the spindle. Record was warped, but not enough to cause any playback issues or cause that much of a pitch difference. Very little noise, no pops or clicks after a good clean, comes with a poster which is cool. Bass isn't as punchy as I would like, it's really noticeable on "Say It Ain't So" The mix isn't bad, and the mastering is quite good. Sounds relatively good. Not muddy, quite clear, and the guitars sound great.

Trashed it !!

Posted Monday, November 16, 2020 by Martin Why would you after 50 years take a classic recording and ruin it. This is even worse than the Beatles remasters by George Martin's son. If I could give it 0 stars I would have !!

Brilliant Release

5 Stars
Posted Monday, April 24, 2017 by Mark B. As for semantics, I love that this came out on virgin pink vinyl. The die cut jacket rivals the best of any throw-back concept albums. As for the songwriting, Aimee is yet again brilliant, catchy, dark and eloquent. Harmonies on this release are truly remarkable and her voice is in top form. I can vouch that the live shows are peak and sound super clean and just like the record. The one thing that's always puzzled me about Aimee Mann's career is that she just seems so underrated and under-appreciated. Fans of dark broody yet intelligent singer-songwriters, buy this! You won't be disappointed.

Of varying quality

3 Stars
Posted Thursday, December 8, 2016 by Brian John Fogerty's voice is recorded with varying degrees of resolution. In some songs, his voice sounds raspy, and it's not because he does have a little rasp in his voice, but it's because of the recording. I'm sure that the songs are sourced from many places, some of them pretty good, but others have an edge that I don't enjoy hearing. It seems like the voice recordings may have been over saturated on some of the sources.

The instrumental sound is usually of a fine quality. It fills the space between the speakers, in most cases, but I wouldn't say that it extends beyond. On some of the songs, the soundstage seems unusually narrow - not quite mono, but lacking in width and depth.

Overall, the album does have great songs, but I can honestly say that I don't listen to it very often because of its limited sound.
