Definitive digital version of a classic compilation

Posted Tuesday, December 23, 2025 by J.B. I grew up listening to this album. A lot. As good as the 1995 Avenue Gold Collection (24K gold) CD was, this one is far superior. Detail and spectral balance are both excellent, without being at all edgy-sounding. Very natural and reminiscent of the original 1976 UA vinyl (which I still have a NM copy of). In fact, something in the vocal detail on "Why Can't We Be Friends?" I never picked up on before caught my attention on the first listen of this SACD. Very highly recommended!

Don't get me wrong, I like it, but it didn't meet my expectations in regards to sound. In my opinion, Katy Lied met and surpassed all my expectations.

Compared to the MCA remastered cd, this sacd is better with a more open sound on everything along with a cleaner sound. Everything is more robust, especially the bass, drums, and voices sticking out in my mind. My only compaint is the liner notes, or lack of them. What happened to what Fagan & Becker wrote? It was a fun read. For $35.00, we deserve more. Even some new words from Fagan would have been nice,even appropriate at this price. Still, I am very happy and pleased with the sound.

The Reverb he creates is astounding. Posted Monday, March 25, 2024 by James Quite possibly the best SACD I have heard so far, and I have dozens of them. Right from the start, the music jumps out of the speakers. Every drum hit is sharp and precise, the backing vocals have remarkable presence, the bass is clean and not boomy. The whole recording sounds alive. I do not have expensive gear. I am playing the DSD layer from a Sony Blu-ray player over HDMI feeding a Yamaha receiver. I will likely buy the entire SD series eventually. If you're even thinking about it, go for it. You won't regret it.

This red book edition was the best digital I have heard until I played the SACD. What separation and clarity of instruments! I loved the recent 1st album SACD and this might even be better sound quality which is as saying a lot. Definitely worth buying to have digital even for the red book edition only. I did not feel it necessary to spend $150 for the vinyl which might be out of your price range or you are OK with an original vinyl pressing. I am sure it is outrageously good though.

Now in 2023 I have a killer sound system trust me when I say that.I’m listening to this sacd as I write this there are not enough words to describe what I’m listening to if you know this lp buy it you won’t be disappointed.don’t hesitate just buy it.

Takes you back to when music was music not the crap going around today.

Dynamics,clarity,and analog like realism in every aspect along with no digital artifacts. Much better than my Redbook issues for sure. I'll be getting the whole AP sacd Steely Dan catalog as they are released. They are the best on any digital format I've heard. Excellent job and totally recommend them for All the Dan fans who appreciate the band's obsessive studio quality.

Why havn't I bought this album before?

I have owned many SD albums over the years, both vinyl and cd versions and enjoyed most of them a lot. But I never bought this album before it was offered on SACD. The production of this album is lush and detailed. The sound stage is expansive and provides great separation of the instruments and the vocals. Close your eyes when you listen for a while and appreciate where each voice and instrument is coming from. This SACD version is a 5+! Next on my list is Can't Buy a Thrill when it is releases on SACD.

This is the first one that captures the the best attributes of the recording. Would love to see this get the UHQR treatment, at least for the stereo mix. ??

Posted Tuesday, September 25, 2018 by Grateful Not much that you can say about Hendrix that hasn't already been written but I don't think it is an exaggeration to say that hearing him for the first time (Are You Experienced) was life altering. I had simply never heard anything like it and I was an immediate convert. Jimi changed everything. I honestly can't recall exactly how many copies of this title that I have purchased over the years but I am old enough to have started with the original vinyl issue here in the U.S. in 1968. I have "upgraded" with various imports and every remaster (CD & vinyl) over the years and now I have pulled the trigger once again with the latest SACD from Analogue Productions. I believe that I can now downsize by getting rid of all of the other CD copies that I currently own of Axis because this is the best of the bunch. It brought a smile to my heart to hear this in it's best-ever incarnation. Highly recommended! I can't wait for the vinyl to be unleashed!
