You talk about a title made for multichannel SACD! It's as if they knew at the album's creation that this format would be available. Finally, technology caught up with Pink Floyd. And oh how lucky we all are to still be around to hear this legendary studio recording in its full potential.

Pink Floyd chose Acoustic Sounds and Analogue Productions to handle the exclusive distribution of this monumental SACD and we are honored and thrilled to be a part of the huge Why Pink Floyd...? campaign that includes remastered CDs, Blu-rays, DVDs, LPs, memorabilia box sets and this, the first-ever multichannel presentation of Wish You Were Here. The SACD also of course includes a stunning stereo mix. And as this is a hybrid disc, the record is of course also playable on a standard CD player.

On its release in 1975 Wish You Were Here topped the album charts in both the U.K. and the U.S. Reflecting the band's thoughts of the time on the music business and exploring themes of absence, Wish You Were Here contains the classic cut "Shine On You Crazy Diamond," a tribute to founding band member Syd Barrett.

In fact, Barrett, who'd long been absent from the lives of Pink Floyd's band members, stopped by the Wish You Were Here recording sessions at London's Abbey Road Studios unannounced. The reunion — with Barrett reportedly appearing in poor mental condition — is said to have been an emotionally stirring event for the band, and apparently that encounter would be the last any of the band members were ever to see of Barrett, who died in 2006.

As they did with their previous release, Dark Side of the Moon, Pink Floyd made great use of studio effects for this, their ninth album overall. The record's winding soundscapes are perfect for the canvas of multichannel SACD. Spacious and airy, the record breathes like a living being.

Wish You Were Here was selected by Rolling Stone as No. 209 on their list of "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time". And that's before they heard it like this!

Splendid ! posted on 07/10/2022 5 Stars Reviewer: RJC I own the 2011 and 2018 versions of this SACD. Comparison of DSD layers (2.0 and 5.1) of both versions. My player is plugged into a Denon AVR A110 anniversary and I use the Audyssey MultEQ XT32 audio setting. It provides three offsets from the film level reference : Dynamic EQ (5 dB, 10 dB and 15 dB) to choose from depending on the compression of the dynamic range of content. Well, the 2018 version is so well recorded that it does NOT need offset correction (0dB). You can really enjoy the rich and beautiful dynamic range of this recording. No compression. Not quite the case with the previous version.

SACD Stereo Mix - Good but not amazing posted on 08/11/2021 4 Stars The SACD Stereo mix is not quite as good as my vinyl re-issue of this album. The drums kick a bit harder and the soundstage is ever so slightly deeper on my vinyl version. It does sound quite a bit better than the CD layer however in both aforementioned areas. I can't comment on the 5.1 sound since I only have a 2.1 setup.

Welcome to the 5.1 Machine posted on 08/23/2019 5 Stars Just got around to putting my new copy in the surround system. I'm just sitting here with a big grin from ear to ear! How many thousands of times have I played this album and how many different versions do I have? No idea - but this is well worth the investment. Great mix and sound is simply amazing! And to think I just ordered it on a whim! If, like me, you think you have played this album out... well, give this new mix a listen. This reminds me of when I was kid in the 70s and putting it on my dad's stereo with headphones after everyone had gone to bed, thinking I was cool. Yeah, it's that kind of awesome!
