Posted Sunday, February 8, 2026 by Anonymous If you want to hear the earliest rock 'n' roll, get this! MoFi did an excellent job mastering this. The songs span 1949 - 1956 but they all sound acceptable. MoFi obviously did a lot of tweaking on them.

Bono sings the songs at half pace, and without the rock music behind him to mask that, the songs are truly unbearable. I am not a guy to return things, but this is the most returnable thing I have ever purchased. DO NOT BUY THIS BOX SET!

I was struggling with too much sibilance on the high frequencies. I eventually started experimenting with small adjustments on my cartridge setup. It got better. I then replaced my cartridge and my issues went away. I had never had this issue with other albums but I think the very high fidelity was not pairing well with my cartridge and also was revealing minor alignment and VTA issues on my setup. New cartridge is Sumiko Songbird MC high output.

If you like smooth jazz, dive in, the water's fine! Concord records did a fine job as the vinyl plays completely quiet with the vocals, piano, bass and drums all having a distinct space as you listen. A high-quality recording in my humble opinion and offered at a great price. If you've every enjoyed being in a dark jazz club listening to the best of music, I suggest you buy this! Boz Scaggs has delivered some of the finest music over the years and this is no exception!

Compressed, muffled sound. Under-water sound. Who cares about the picture on the record when the sound is this bad? Stop taking advantage of people.

My mac c2800 is usually set to +1 for bass but there is plenty of it on these 2 albums. i turned the bass down to zero. very quiet vinyl, low noise floor as some vinyl has. very very quiet. the 2nd lp is demo versions of his songs. very nice change and sounds just as good as the main LP. happy.

Would be 5 star other than a hint of faint noise floor sound in the quietest passages. But very faint. It's on 2 lps at 33.3rpm so the grooves are not compressed vs crammed onn1 (dont think it could be). Very happy with this purchase

Amazingly good sound. love these tracks, almost every one is a really good "goth" track, heard em many times over the years but never had this cd OR lp. impressed and happy with this pressing, especially for the price. A win for sure.

My lovely bride and I really enjoy this album and we were fob-smacked by what we were hearing - lots of subtle detail and occasionally you can hear the mild gravel on the outer edges of Tom Petty’s voice, it’s delightful. The bass is super warm; the piano, guitar, and percussion sound as great as ever. Beautiful!

If you like this album, you need to get this, even if you already have the mofi 33 RPM version. You can always sell it on Ebay, as I did.

...another not-so-great pressing

Side A is muddy sounding, Side B is better sounding, Side C...muddy, and Side D...muddy, but over all the entire pressing is just not that great sounding for a re-master. Sounds like when CBS tried to do their own version of half-speed mastering and it came out sounding dark. HF is rolled off considerably. This is such a great album, my first press U.S. CD in the box with the polaroid's, charm, and map sounds far better. What is going on with these sub-par pressings?
