Head / Mind Blown - Superb Sonic Experience

Posted Sunday, March 23, 2025 by alternating.bit While I'll admit I only own a couple of other Original Master Recording records, I've never been so impressed by both the sound quality and packaging of a record like this, and I own over a thousand records. What's also interesting is I originally owned this album back in the '80s on cassette, then CD later and I was accustomed to the somewhat limited headroom on the album recording whenever those super punching drum hits kick in during tracks like "Dirty White Boy" and "Head Games." Yet this vinyl recording manages to lift the headroom to allow for those drums to not sound as compressed or clipped. In some ways I was alarmed by this because of what I was used to, yet ultimately I'm absolutely impressed and thrilled by the mastering for this vinyl release. Ironically I bought this album along with the 2-LP 45 RPM set of Foreigner's first album and this one actually sounds better to me; somehow deeper and with a wider frequency range. Highly recommend.

I have to say as a fanatical Blues collector this LP Mastered at The Mastering Lab has shot right up to my TOP 10 Blues Albums. I had never seen the name Matthew Luthans but my hat is off to you Sir for a spectacular job at Mastering. Folks it just doesn't get any better than this. Chad Bless your heart for being the Blues Man you are and for watching over this.

I haven't owned the CD for years but have to believe this LP is more emotionally engaging. It's not an audiophile pressing but sounds fine. A solid purchase.

Posted Monday, March 10, 2025 by Sckott I had to dig out my two other copies: an original cut from Atlantic US (specialty, Variant 1), the 2LP reissue Miles cut from Abbey Road, and this one. I don't have an Island copy. At first, I thought something was technically off on my end, but alas, some cuts on this album aren't as intense (LFR) as others. Silver, Blue & Gold has a low delivery of bottom end, while something like Sweet Little Sister is more. This 2LP, 45rpm has much better clarity than the other two in general.

Dead quiet background, enormous soundstage. Feels like you’re back in 1959 listening live in the studio. Highly recommended to Torme fans and those yet to be fans!

Posted Monday, February 10, 2025 by Grateful I have been wanting to express my feelings about this album from the very first listen but have hesitated because I know that I am not articulate enough to do the music or the artists justice. So I'll do my best to simplify. I love everything about this record. The vocals and musicianship are sublime, the songs are thoughtful, soulful and heartfelt, audio quality is 5 star and wonderfully seductive (as are the lyrics) and the album jacket and info serves the content well. One can't help but to have the greatest respect for these two artists who are so passionate and genuine about what they do and, even more importantly, who they are. I consider them a true blessing and hope they are greatly appreciated in their time and beyond.

So far in this excellent Atlantic 75th series A Trick of the Tail is my favorite. However, this Genesis album does sound incredible. I have played the four sides through a few times now. Well Second Home by the Sea several :) Amazing. Sounds the best I have ever heard. So happy to have this in our collection.

This pressing is dead quiet and the cover high quality. Clearly a well done issue. Pro; Great music! Highly recommended LP. Con; This LP was not well recorded/mixed in places.
