Not enough stars, quite frankly best the best vinyl record ever made

5 Stars
Posted Wednesday, April 17, 2024 by Wised I thought the Patricia Patrcia Barber's Cafe Blue one step release was the best vinyl ever produced. This one step pressing Of Getz and Gilberto's masterpiece is a religious experience. I own the 33, the 45 and now this one. The 45 RPM version was extraordinary, this one has simply left me without words to adequately describe it, it is simply the best vinyl record ever made. Kudos to Impex Records, a great achievement indeed. Compared to the previous 45....incredible bass, even better soundstage, more transparency, more air, more delicate rendering, more, more, more! I thought the difference would be subtle given the original 45's excellence, it is not! You feel like if you were right in the studio's recording booth all those years ago! Every mouthing of the sax, the ring of the top hat, Astrud softly singing in your ear, it's almost sexual in the most intimate way....WOW

Nice pressing!

Posted Thursday, March 21, 2024 by William Taylor This is the way a piano should sound. Obviously, whoever recorded this knew how to accomplish the tricky challenge of recording piano. Thelonious never sounded better. This is a fun record and I'm pleased to have the definitive version of it.

Something Old, Something Gnu

5 Stars
Posted Monday, June 5, 2023 by Dave A. Wow. ECM really kicked off their new series well with this set from 1975. The pressing is so clean - not a pop nor a tic. The sound has great instrument separation and a three dimensionality. It's a gas to hear these four legends bouncing off each others ideas, carrying on a exploratory musical dialogue. The packaging is uniquely first rate - the vinyl is not packed inside the sleeve, but rather in the center of the gatefold. I've gotten plenty of used lps this way but this is a first for a new record from the factory. I like it! I'm hoping this sets a trend. I will definitely be keeping my ear tuned to this series.

4 Great Sides of Bill Evans - $40= No Brainer

5 Stars
Posted Wednesday, June 8, 2022 by Anonymous Yes....Just sat down and listened to all 4 sides of this gem today. Like many, I have been digging the original WB pressing mastered by Doug Sax for many years, it's a classic for both sound and music. Flat and quiet pressing and this new 45 rpm version is clearer and both the bass and piano both sound more natural to my ears on my system. At $40 this is a Solid-Gold-Blue-Chip release, kids. Don't even THINK about complaining that Side 4 has only 1 song...It's the Theme from M*A*S*H* (aka Suicide Is Painless) and it's 5 min and change of the most beautiful sound you'll ever hear...Yeah...buy this now...

Great album for the Elvin Jones fan!

5 Stars
Posted Wednesday, August 18, 2021 by Kenny I was privileged to see Elvin and the Jazz Machine live at Yoshi's in Oakland, CA back in 1999. I was sitting no farther than 30 feet from his bass drum; his playing felt like THUNDER! I bought this live album to recreate the memories I had of the concert I attended. Great album. Vinyl sounds great. No issues. Fast delivery from Acoustic Sounds. WARNING: the longest track is over 30 minutes!

Smokin'

5 Stars
Posted Monday, June 7, 2021 by Brian VanPelt This one is cut loud, like most of the other Tone Poet albums. These guys get started and just keep going - there is no dull moment in this one. I heard ideas that I hadn't before, and you can't help but toe-tap to a lot of these tunes.

The surface noise is essentially null and void, but you wouldn't know it because the music is quite loud.

On the right, I heard the sax and Art Blakey on the drums - and he pounds those things into submission. The piano was in the middle, and maybe a trumpet was on the left. The bass lingers somewhere in the back.

This is a seriously dynamic album. All of the instruments sound correct, and they were all played with vigor. To use classical music speak, the whole album is played in allegro; there is no slow down ever. As far as the music is concerned, this is really high on my list of Tone Poet releases. It is toe-tapping and head bobbing, and it's not even like you have a choice.

Freedom of surface noise affords this l

Clean Vinyl but Loud Music

5 Stars
Posted Monday, May 17, 2021 by Brian VanPelt Usually, it's nice to have loud music to cover up any surface noise on the record, and the music on this record is certainly loud enough to cover such noise. However, the vinyl itself is very quiet. During quiet parts, like between songs, I heard a click now and then, but that's about it. If deep grooves allow for a high gain recording to be put on record, then the grooves on this vinyl must be cut very deep to obtain such a brilliant recording.

With Blue Note records, I am never quite sure the quality that I'm going to get. But this record looked about perfect visually. The sound is excellent - great detail, natural instrument sound, players sonically easy to locate, etc.

The times that I've gotten great Blue Note records have always involved big name jazz people. The record I have is like those records. Therefore, I must surmise that Grant Green is one of the greats. I didn't know he was one of the big names in jazz.

Great music deserves better pressing

3 Stars
Posted Saturday, March 20, 2021 by Keith Purchased a Koetsu cartridge a while back and have been on a album purchasing odyssey since. Had the CD of this and really enjoy it, so decided to order....Sorry to say the CD is a little more dynamic, has better separation, and low end. Both offer good imaging, but its one of the few albums I've been disappointed with the pressing. Too bad ....... the music here deserves better.

An Essential Must-Have in Your Collection

Posted Sunday, January 10, 2021 by Mills Do not hesitate. Recording is great to superb, pressing is quiet and flat. Bass is spot-on and kick drum hits your chest. I cannot believe this is only $36! If this music is up your alley, then you owe it to yourself. $36! That's 3 six- packs of good beer. Just do it....

Phenomenal Live Set and Recording

5 Stars
Posted Wednesday, October 28, 2020 by S. Madon This is an outstanding performance of standards by this phenomenal jazz trio, made more so special because it is beautifully recorded. The sound stage and imaging in this recording are amazing. The musicianship is incomparable! DeJohnette's drums center stage, slightly elevated, Gary Peacock's bass in front center, Jarrett's piano to the right. Cymbals crash, shift and ride, the notes bend and roll off the bass, and Keith's piano ties it all together crystal clear during one gem of a musical night. A must-have in every serious audiophile jazz collection.

Immersive Listening Experience

5 Stars
Posted Monday, October 12, 2020 by S Madon Exhilarating music, with top-notch artists in great form. Sonically, this 45 rpm gem created an immersive listening experience like no other. The sound stage and imaging were perfect. Bill Evans' mastery on the keyboards create notes that waft crystal clear, you can hear Eddie Gomez's fingers snap on those bass strings during those bass note runs and Jack deJohnette's sticks riding those cymbals to create a musical experience that will make you flip those LP sides all over again once done. This wonderful 45 rpm release has far exceeded my expectations. Well worth the $50 price tag. Kudos to the Analog Productions team!

Charlie Haden, Joe Henderson, and Al Foster - The Montreal Tapes: Tribute to Joe Henderson Product No: AVER 43172
Available: BackOrdered
Category: 180 Gram Vinyl Record
Label: Verve (Play 33 1/3)

Excellent!

5 Stars
Posted Saturday, July 25, 2020 by Anthony This is just an excellent LP, one in which is going to move into my top ten. I am going to have consider other offerings from the Play 33 1/3 catalog. It's that good! I read somewhere that if one were to pick a tenor saxophonist in whom to emulate, he couldn't do much better than Joe Henderson. I'd have to agree.

Backwards and Forwards

5 Stars
Posted Monday, June 29, 2020 by JazzDoc I've been a Van fan for decades. Listening to this album on Qobuz didn't give me the experience I'd hoped for, perhaps mostly because I wasn't really giving it my attention at the time. So, now I've got the vinyl spinning on my Linn and the lyric sheet in my lap--kinda like the good ol' days. There's something timely about these songs, something timeless about the arrangements. Silver marbled vinyl, quiet and flat surfaces, great depth and R-L dimensions, clearly defined instruments. If you've ever liked Van on vinyl, buy this.

Mixed Bag

5 Stars
Posted Monday, May 4, 2020 by Anthony This is a very well recorded record. The vinyl is quiet and has no apparent flaws. In my opinion, I found the covers of other the artist's works to be superior to her original compositions. I think that had they simply put the cover songs on one disc, it would have been a much more enjoyable offering. Others may disagree.
