These two works are closely connected and it is interesting to have them recorded together. Both date from the year 1878, when Tchaikovsky had fled abroad after his abortive marriage and was staying with his brother Modest of the Lake of Geneva.

Concerto in D Major, Op. 35
First Movement: Allegro Moderato – Cadenza – Allegro Moderato
Second Movement: Canzonetta (Andante)
Third Movement: Finale (Allgro Vivacissimo)

Meditation in D Minor, Op. 42

Leonid Kogan's performance of this concert is outstanding, IMHO it is the best on records. The recording quality is impeccable and uncompressed. I had heard it years ago at a friend's house and I liked it, but this time I loved it!
