"This is one of the most highly underrated entries in Coltrane's voluminous catalog. Although the same overwhelming attention bestowed upon My Favorite Things was not given to Coltrane's Sound upon its initial release, both were actually recorded during the same three-day period in the fall of 1960. So prolific were those recording dates, they informed no less than five different Coltrane albums on Atlantic." - All Music Guide

A very solid pressing for the price

I just received this and I am very happy with the sound of this record for only $16. As best as I can tell, this is the Rhino reissue from 2010, and the sticker says "Lacquers cut by Bernie Grundman" and "LPs cut from the original analog masters." It was also apparently pressed at RTI. I don't have the original pressings or the ORG music release to compare it to, but this one has generally received favorable comments at the Steve Hoffman forum and sounds quite good to me for the price. Keep in mind, some of these Atlantic jazz recordings from the 60s are not on the same level as Blue Note and Impulse recordings from that time period in terms of mixing and mastering, so don't expect a mindblowing audiophile experience. But for $16 this is definitely a bargain.
