Another variation in the ultimately-acclaimed Koetsu line – the Urushi Tsugaru. This beautiful, hand-made Moving Coil cartridge features Neodymium magnets, silver-clad copper wire and a healthy .6mV output. It's encased in a gorgeous black and gold lacquered rosewood body and weighs 9.2 grams.

This Urushi uses a Neodymium magnet for a more robust output of about .6mv. The Tsugaru would be a great choice for running straight into a full-function preamplifier where a traditional lower output cartridge may not work.

Koetsu owners decorate their homes with originals, not prints. They smoke Cubans rather than Swisher Sweets. They drink single malt. They favor vinyl to CDs, and their systems sound better than their buddies'. Koetsu owners require the best. And they know the difference.

In the 1970s,Yosiaki Sugano, arenaissance man who'd had success as an artist, musician, swordsman, calligrapher and business executive, became the creator of the world's most renowned phono cartridges. He enlisted universities, specialized industries and master craftspeople to create the special parts that comprised his masterpieces. Sugano was one of the first to use 4-nines copper, and current Koetsu production uses 6-nines copper.Sugano developed and fostered a vision of unparalleled beauty and performance. Each cartridge became a one-of-a-kind, pampered piece of perfection. Sugano's pride lived in the very limited run of each model.

Now in its fourth decade, Koetsu has remained the cost-no-object option for perfect music reproduction. While Yosiaki Sugano has passedaway, his vision lives throughhis son, Fumihiko Sugano, who was trained for yearsbythe master Yoshaki. The standards remain the same -verysimply, perfection. With it comes a hand-built beauty that's evoked adjectivesnormally reserved for art or jewelry -words like "mystique" and "masterpiece." A Koetsu isn't just listened to, it's beheld.
