Fifty years later, Boston's debut album still feels impossibly huge, full of a singular power that's the result of its surprising contradictions. It's anthemic yet melodic. It's bombastic yet easygoing. It's free-spirited party rock that's fastidiously constructed.

Before Boston, rock and roll sounded smaller, bluesier: made for clubs, not stadiums. Tom Scholz's uncompromising vision, which he relentlessly pursued, basically invented arena rock. The album's nearly incalculable influence is still inspiring more than half a century later.

Boston remained on the Billboard 200 album chart for an incredible 132 weeks — a whopping 2 1/2 years — peaking at No. 3 and remaining in the Top 10 for 30 weeks. It has become a legend how MIT grad Scholz arduously wrote and recorded nearly all of the album's tight, ultra-polished tunes in his basement studio at night while working as an engineer at Polaroid by day. He relentlessly pursued the sound he envisioned in his head, even modifying gear and creating custom instrumental effects to realize it.

Wishing to offer something truly unique to the millions of Boston fans who've supported the band through the years, Scholz has — for the very first time — dug deep into his massive archive of recordings to find the long-lost, previously unreleased demos he famously shopped to the labels before being signed by Epic Records. He painstakingly restored and remastered these elusive treasures with the help of producer, digital expert and Boston guitarist Gary Pihl, exclusively for this 50th Anniversary release. For the first time ever you will be able to compare these storied song versions back-to-back!
