Released by Verve Records in 1965, The Shadow of Your Smile captures Astrud Gilberto at the height of her cool, understated magic — the moment where bossa nova's breezy elegance met lush, mid-'60s studio sophistication. With beautifully tailored arrangements by Don Sebesky, Claus Ogerman, and João Donato, the album bathes Gilberto's iconic whisper-soft vocals in orchestral warmth and subtle Brazilian swing.

A crossover favorite that climbed to No. 66 on the Billboard 200, this is Astrud in full command of her artistry, moving effortlessly between intimate torch-song moods and sunlit bossa textures.

I’ve been a fan of Astrud Gilberto going back to her debut with Stan Getz and the incredibly popular song The Girl from Ipanema. By the mid 1960s Bossa-Nova became very popular. I have purchased many Astrud Gilberto records ever since. This new remastered album first released in 1965, is the jewel in my Astrud Gilberto collection. I have often said the mastering engineer can make or break a record. I still stand by this belief. The mastering done by Matthew Lutthans on the re-issue is as good as it will ever get. Which leads me to this belief, mastering engineers a the unsung stars of the music business. I recommend this record to anyone and everyone.
