Released in partnership with Acoustic Sounds, the album has been (AAA) remastered from the original tapes by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab and pressed on 180-gram vinyl. A replica tip-on jacket completes the package.

Pure Analog Done Right — Following Doug Sax’s Footsteps posted on 08/23/2026 5 Stars Reviewer: Mark I don’t own these yet, but based on the mastering trends I’ve heard from Gray and Grundman over the years, their polite chains consistently strip the life out of the music. That “audiophile-polite” approach cuts the balls out of the energy and rounds off the bite that classic jazz and blues actually needs. Combined with their polite mastering philosophy and the increasingly questionable sources being used today — often hi-res files derived from some analog tape — I’m even less interested in that direction, especially after the MoFi/Music Direct era showed how vague source descriptions can be. This Bluesville Series isn’t cut through their chains. It follows in the footsteps of Doug Sax’s philosophy: a pure, all-analog chain that preserves the attack, the tape texture, and the raw midrange presence that defines this genre. If you like blues, this is probably the best AAA remastering you can get today.
