Supertramp — Crime Of The Century

180-gram vinyl

Half-speed mastered at Abbey Road Studios

Crime Of The Century was Supertramp's era-defining third album that catapulted them to global success in 1974, breaking them into the U.K. Top 5 and Billboard Top 40 album charts for the first time. As the album fast-tracked the band's global popularity, they would write and record Crisis? What Crisis? that was released just 13 months after Crime Of The Century.

With oversight of the band and co-producer Ken Scott, this 50th Anniversary reissue has been remastered at half-speed by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios on 180-gram vinyl giving it greater detail and the best possible clarity.

I have an original copy of this LP and it sounds good, although there are definitely issues with the original mixing that over-emphasize bass- a common issue of that era tbh. I had great hopes for this reissue. I always clean my LP's 3x when new with my ultrasonic cleaner; I played this album starting w/ side 1- the noise was so bad, i was initially ready to take it off and put it away in the forgotten LP section of my collection, but then kept on listening and the surface noise did decrease somewhat, but it was still there. The first track on side 1 was un-listenable.

Oh gosh! Please UHQR this record. The potential of audiophile bliss is apparent here. What a great record. Unfortunately, there are soooo many artifacts… such a contrast against such a wonderful mastering. The bass and drumming is beyond anything I’ve heard on any other ‘Crime’ over the years. ‘Dreamer’ is a revelation on this. Amazing. Acoustic Sounds produces the best records. Please UHQR this.
