Saxophonist Charles Lloyd debuts his collective The Marvels on dynamic nine-song set

First new release featured as part of the acclaimed Tone Poet Audiophile Vinyl Series!

The Blue Note Tone Poet Series was born out of Blue Note President Don Was' admiration for the exceptional audiophile Blue Note LP reissues presented by Music Matters. Was brought Joe Harley (from Music Matters), a.k.a. the "Tone Poet," on board to curate and supervise the series. This vinyl edition is the first new release to be featured as part of the acclaimed Tone Poet Audiophile Vinyl Series!

Tone Poem is the third album by Charles Lloyd & The Marvels, the genre-straddling quintet that features the master saxophonist with Bill Frisell on guitar, Greg Leisz on pedal steel guitar, Reuben Rogers on bass, and Eric Harland on drums. The nine dynamic tracks here include new Lloyd originals along with pieces by Ornette Coleman, Thelonious Monk, Leonard Cohen, Gabor Szabo, and Bola de Nieve. The Blue Note Tone Poet Series reissues feature all-analog, remastered 180-gram vinyl in a deluxe gatefold package. The Lloyd album Tone Poem is a hig-resolution digital recording. Fittingly, it was Lloyd who first dubbed Harley the "Tone Poet."

Lloyd debuted his collective The Marvels-featuring Bill Frisell on guitar, Greg Leisz on pedal steel guitar, Reuben Rogers on bass, and Eric Harland on drums-on the 2016 album I Long To See You with special guests Norah Jones and Willie Nelson, and reconvened the band for 2018's Vanished Gardens which featured Lucinda Williams on half the album.

Just got back into vinyl last year. One of my best choices this year. Shines a light on the shortcomings of streaming. Wish I’d snagged I long to see you as well.
