Features "One Hundred Years" and "The Hanging Garden"
Originally a postpunk outfit with gothic leanings, The Cure evolved into one of the most visionary, creatively satisfying and influential groups to come of age in the 1980s. From dreamy pop to moody expressionism, their signature sound is adventurous, hypnotic, and rich with texture. Formed in 1976 by Robert Smith and schoolmates Michael Dempsey (bass) and Laurence Tolhurst (drums), the band's early catalog — here newly remastered — is a series of masterpieces that laid the groundwork for their phenomenal and enduring popularity.
The Cure's fascination with despair and decay culminated in the unrelenting sonic attack of the band's innovative 1982 release, Pornography. The group's fourth full-length offering following 1981's Faith, Pornography is considered by many to be the Cure's best as well as their darkest and most disturbing. The brooding eight-song set — anchored by opener "One Hundred Years" and lead single "The Hanging Garden" — cemented the Cure's role as beacons of the emergent gothic rock genre, with the band sporting their signature red lipstick and big hair look for the first time during this tour.
