John Coltrane - A Love Supreme

Right from the very first hearing, absolutely every single jazz critic shared the same opinion - whether trained musicians or not, true or would-be jazz experts: A Love Supreme is John Coltrane's most iportant recording. And the rave reviews which appeared in the magazines Downbeat, Jazz, Hot, Jazz Podium and Swingjournal reflected this: critics all over the world, in America, Europe and Japan recognized that Coltrane's deep religious belief had influenced both his approach to life and his music-making. It not only enabled him to express himself with great intensity but also lent him the necessary inner peace to conceive a work of almost 40 minutes in length and to lead his quartet along the same path as himself.

Excellent SACD posted on 08/23/2022 5 Stars Reviewer: joey1127 As the other reviewer has stated, this is an amazing sounding edition of A LOVE SUPREME. Note that it is a 2- channel Single-Layer SACD. If you have an above average digital front end, pick this one up, you'll love it. I prefer this release to the my 45 RPM AP release.

Leahy First off, the music on this album is nothing short of incredible - anyone who's on this website looking at this should already know that. You're wondering about the quality of the SACD audio, and I have to say, I think the job that was done on this one is fantastic - the only down side being that it's not a hybrid; there's no standard CD layer to use on it. If you just want an SACD of this album for less than $20, then this is the one. The Analogue Productions edition may turn out to be better, if it's based on a newer mastering - not sure if that's the case, though. That one's a hybrid, but it's also $30. But hey, it's great that there's actually a choice between two editions.
