Posted Thursday, February 5, 2026 by Paul Bouganim This album sounds fantastic. Sharing my experience for education. This is definitely a high fidelity master. I was struggling with too much sibilance on the high frequencies. I eventually started experimenting with small adjustments on my cartridge setup. It got better. I then replaced my cartridge and my issues went away. I had never had this issue with other albums but I think the very high fidelity was not pairing well with my cartridge and also was revealing minor alignment and VTA issues on my setup. New cartridge is Sumiko Songbird MC high output.

If you like this album, you need to get this, even if you already have the mofi 33 RPM version. You can always sell it on Ebay, as I did.

Yes - these are fighting words because Kevin's all analogue system is second to none. What makes this version a cut above is that is is cut at 45 rpm. There is real space between the instruments. Stevie's voice is elevated, centered, and forward. The bass thumps. My copy (#464) is flat and dead quiet. I look forward to having shoot outs with my friends comparing other versions including the Rhino but IMO this 45 rpm version wins hands down.

An epic record for a epic live show

I listen to the "CD quality" stream quite a lot, and that now seems muddied and compressed compared to this. Instrument separation here is fantastic. It really does sound like I'm amongst the musicians playing their instruments rather than just listening to a track. This record really puts the digital stream version in its place, as this is superior in every way. The streaming version almost sounds like FM Radio by comparison.

What floored me is the level of detail. I am constantly hearing things I had not heard before at all. For example in Prelude Part 2, I am keenly aware of Reggie Lucas's jamming during Pete Cosey's solo. There are parts where I didn't even know he was playing before. All of the little side notes are elevated so that nothing is missed. This record does justice to this special part of Miles Davis's career.

Have an original but it must be at my brothers house so not able compare but I do have the Speakers Corner version which is great but this wins no issue. Such a well produced, written and played album. Music 9/10 Pressing 9.5/10.

It turned out almost every One-Step release had been passing through a DSD transfer, unbeknownst to much of the audiophile world. And for someone like you, who understands how delicate cartridge voicing and mastering lineage affect playback character, it’s a frustrating breach of transparency.

Dave's vocals have more punch and definition. Great SACD remaster. What I was hoping for. Get it before it goes out of print.

The clarity of the percussion really stands out to me. Whom ever remastered this did an outstanding job. 3 or 4 of these titles being reissued would make me very happy.

Head / Mind Blown - Superb Sonic Experience

Posted Sunday, March 23, 2025 by alternating.bit While I'll admit I only own a couple of other Original Master Recording records, I've never been so impressed by both the sound quality and packaging of a record like this, and I own over a thousand records. What's also interesting is I originally owned this album back in the '80s on cassette, then CD later and I was accustomed to the somewhat limited headroom on the album recording whenever those super punching drum hits kick in during tracks like "Dirty White Boy" and "Head Games." Yet this vinyl recording manages to lift the headroom to allow for those drums to not sound as compressed or clipped. In some ways I was alarmed by this because of what I was used to, yet ultimately I'm absolutely impressed and thrilled by the mastering for this vinyl release. Ironically I bought this album along with the 2-LP 45 RPM set of Foreigner's first album and this one actually sounds better to me; somehow deeper and with a wider frequency range. Highly recommend.
