VERY helpful

5 Stars
Posted Tuesday, August 30, 2022 by Mark Williams I use a Shure V-15 III and currently have a JICO SAS with zirconium cantilever on it. My phono pre is a Schiit Mani (new "2" version) and it has some selections for load available. However, the V-15 III is supposed to see a total of 400pf to 500pf and even adding in the SME arm cables and the max positions on the Mani dip switches, I could not get it that high. I felt the cart was sounding mighty zippy, especially on muted trumpets, saxes, certain percussion, etc. and I ordered this set to experiment more easily with different amounts of capacitance. I will further check this with a test record and a meter, but once i hit about 450pf, all the mid band voicing settled right in! Vocals, saxes, horns, percussion - all sound "right" now. Very handy little kit!

Works really well

4 Stars
Posted Thursday, October 18, 2012 by Jeff C - Australia I've just installed one of these on my Rega P3-24. It took about 5 minutes, was easy to set up and works a treat. Because the clearance between the deck and the arm on the Rega is small I had to mount the Qup without the adjustable U mounting bracket. This is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. I also had to add some thin double sided tape to the base of the Qup to fix it to the turntable. By carefully reading all the instructions on the Qup website http://thequp.com I found they had provided info about how mounting on a Rega would be a little different. You do get a slight thunk sound through your speakers when it activates but I think that is acceptable as some run out grooves are very noisy anyway. So if want the extra convenience of automatic arm lift up at the end of a record on a manual TT then I think this is a very neat solution.

Fantastic Upgrade!!!

5 Stars
Posted Sunday, May 24, 2009 by Ben I have upgraded my VPI JMW 12.5 with this box. My tonearm is 8 yrs old with the silver junction box so I felt this would be a good upgrade for me. You have to unmount the tonearm from the plinth to do this install. I had no trouble doing this but I work with tools all the time. If you are not handy with tools then seek professional help. After installing the first thing I noticed is an increase in bass, it is tight and clean. The second thing is an increase in detail. I am hearing details from albums that I never heard before. The sound is crisp and clean. If I didn't hear it with my own ears I would not have believed it was possible. I would highly recommend this upgrade to owners of JMW tonearms with the stock silver colored junction box. I have contacted VPI about getting my tonearm wiring upgraded to the silver Nordost wiring. If I get that much of a performance increase from the junction box, I can't wait to hear the difference with the tonearm's silver wiring!

Best for the money cartridge lead replacements

5 Stars
Posted Saturday, January 3, 2009 by StylinLP Rebuilding from ground up a Thorens TD-145 turntable I decided to order the cheapest cartridge leads that looks of quality. It seemed that these AudioQuest wires fit what I was looking for. Upon receiving them I found that they are made of very high quality contruction. Sure enough that is nicely woven silk casing around those wires. These are definately not cheap cables. Since they are AudioQuest I trust that they are of the purest copper. They mounted very nicely. Sure tight grip. The boots were not too flimsy so was easy to work with. Playing back records on the thorens was a huge improvement in detail. I swear, after adjusting the springs, grommets and new bottom plate out of 1/2" thick blatic birch plywood this table sounded just as good as my Teres Audio turntable. Not quite the size but still sounded really nice. Before and after I did notice that replacing those old moldy corroded leads with these AudioQuest wires was an improvement. For around $10 it is highly recommended!

Posted Thursday, February 14, 2008 by tooter For those of you out there interested, this counterweight also works with the Music Hall MMF2.2. The counterweight that comes with the MMF2.2 will work for cartridges upto about 5-6g. I bought this for use with a Shure M97xe, works perfectly.

Rough, but does the job

3 Stars
Posted Sunday, August 19, 2007 by Anonymous I ordered this to add weight to my VPI arm, and this small metal block does what it advertises. I found the metal block, however, to be rough and sharp (at the corners) and I would have preferred a more refined (i.e. polished) metal with sharp edges smoothed. But if you need 3 grams on your arm, this will do the job.
