Great sound, hit or miss pressing

4 Stars
Posted Friday, July 17, 2026 by Scott N. Sound-wise, absolutely amazing and the best I've heard of this recording since it came out in 1994. BUT, even though it was pressed at RTI, sides 3 and 4 contain lots of distracting clicks that really distract from listening pleasure in the quiet passages especially. Shame.

Posted Saturday, May 16, 2026 by Anthony This is one of those rare excellently recorded live jazz albums and even though it is in mono, it has a wide spread. It is far superior to my Japanese EMI pressing, plus there is added material on the second and third discs and a very informative booklet included.

Posted Wednesday, December 17, 2025 by greg love all of the Kenny burrell lp's especially Midnight blue, but this one is really nice. Live stuff, but the recording and pressing is so good, you'd never know till the audience starts clapping. very low noise floor, no pops or cracks.. almost like the 45rpm stuff, but don't have to get up 3 times. LOL

A Home Run

Posted Thursday, June 19, 2025 by Andre Excellent pressing, dead flat without sharp edge. I hate to pay a high price for warp records. The recording simple amazing good separation with an elegant bass and clear mid and highs. Recommended.

Don't miss out on this!

Posted Saturday, April 15, 2023 by Matthew I am still waiting for the first Chet Baker Sings Tone Poet to come back into print. I was not going to miss out on this one though, and I am glad I didn't. Chet's voice sounds amazing on this, and the strings are a fantastic touch. As close to perfect as you can get.

Dead quiet

Posted Wednesday, June 1, 2022 by Anonymous Just got back into vinyl last year. One of my best choices this year. Shines a light on the shortcomings of streaming. Wish I’d snagged I long to see you as well.

Stunning. Just beautiful

Posted Saturday, May 21, 2022 by Garrett With the exception of a few Grant Green and Jim Hall titles, jazz guitar isn’t usually my jam. But oh my, this is an elegant, intelligent, and delightful listen. My copy is dead quiet and totally flat. It’s a wonderful album at night, mellow with some up tempo passages. What a truly skilled musician brought to life on a wonderful recording. Buy this album and enjoy the open and elegant sound.

Great Session

5 Stars
Posted Wednesday, April 27, 2022 by Anonymous Hank Mobley, Kenny Dorham, Sonny Clark, what more could you want? Apparently an early RVG Stereo recording which is why it's not panned as widely as he did later. It almost sounds mono but in my opinion that's not a bad thing. Great stuff.

Very Dynamic

5 Stars
Posted Wednesday, June 9, 2021 by Brian VanPelt This Gil Evans records are cut very loud. The very first sound is a blasting horn, which will wake you right up. From that point on, the pace move briskly. The sense of space was wonderful. You really feel like you are sitting amongst a group of musicians, except it's not an intimate venue. This band is big and encompasses, completely, the space from left-to-right between your speakers. The sharpness of the instruments is fantastic. Every instrument is completely sharp and hyper-dynamic. I don't know if I've ever heard a record this dynamic before. When the horns all play at once, they will knock you out of your seat. Each instrument is easy to point out in space, and there are a lot of instruments. Several instruments get a chance to solo, but I don't remember which, other than the guitar. There are so many instruments that I lost track. This is the second Gil Evans record (after Out of the Cool) that featured tunes that just throw in everything at you,
