180-gram LP

Mastered by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio from the original master tape

Plated and pressed at RTI

The Blue Note Tone Poet Series was born out of Blue Note President Don Was' admiration for the exceptional audiophile Blue Note LP reissues presented by Music Matters. Was brought Joe Harley (from Music Matters), a.k.a. the "Tone Poet," on board to curate and supervise a series of reissues from the Blue Note family of labels.

Recorded in 1963, Katanga! is the last of six albums from saxophonist Curtis Amy recorded for Pacific Jazz in the early `60s. This remarkable session includes trumpeter Dupree Bolton, guitarist Ray Crawford, pianist Jack Wilson, bassist Victor Gaskin, and drummer Doug Sides on this gem of an album. Blue Note Tone Poet Series features all-analog, remastered 180-gram vinyl in deluxe gatefold packaging.

Picked this up after reading some rave reviews online - most recently MF on AnalogPlanet and wow - the sound just jumps out of my speakers. The musicianship and material is undeniable and will grab you by the throat the first time you hear it. I urge you - do not miss this pressing!
