Over the years, I've had several formats of this release, including cassette but NONE compared to this! Every note produced on every instrument is crystal clear and sharp! It was like having George Benson in the room! Absolute silence with no noise on either disc. I've NEVER heard "This Masquerade" or any other track sound like they do on this version! Excellent production of the heavy gate-fold jacket as well! Thank you to Chad and the whole team!

I never would have thought that but here we are. Even if you aren't yet a Bill Evans fan...this is easily one of the greatest sounding jazz albums and most listenable jazz albums you will ever have in your collection. Like I said...I wasn't expecting it to be that out of this world but it is. Buy now...it will become a treasured piece in your collection.

The Best Version of a Masterpiece

Posted Tuesday, April 2, 2024 by Paul After already owning 2 copies of this I was a little hesitant but it was absolutely worth spending the cash on this version. The sound is fantastic and beats the other two copies without any doubt.

This is listening to the tape machine in the studio good and works well at 45rpm with the title track being over 13 mins long and having a track per side. The gatefold jacket is too notch and printing is 10/10

Trane is powerful and clear and Paul Chambers' bass is warm and strong--just what I was looking for. Surface noise is limited. Another winner from Acoustic Sounds.

Close your eyes and the soundstage and music come to life. Very quiet pressing and the sound quality is second to none. Get this one!

I am a Mingus freak and this is the best sounding version of this album by far. The somewhat extreme right-left instruments separation is very typical of this era and is consistent with the original pressing. All the musicians sound so close to you. Especially Mingus' upright. An astonishing pressing overall. It was worth the big investment (60 bucks plus another 60 bucks for the shipping).

Posted Friday, January 13, 2023 by Shawn Howard Just now Lady Day came to life in my listening room, with a spotlight on her only, singing into a microphone on an elevated round stage. The conductor, Ray Ellis is just behind her right shoulder, delicately conducting the orchestra and choir. The drum kit is slightly behind and to her left, the upright bass almost even with her, on the fringes of the light, to her left and to our right. A tear crept up and paused at the edge of my. My heart pounded slowly, and I swayed to the music. As I moved, I realized Billie Holiday was holographically there with me. Each slightly different angle revealed a different side of her voice, and in my mind, her entire presence.

What a way to start a new year of record enjoyment. Thank you to everyone involved. Bravo, and may we have an encore please?

Posted Wednesday, November 16, 2022 by Anonymous In an attempt to not buy the Bill Evans boxset offered through Analog Productions, I picked this up. Big mistake. All it did was make me want the boxset.

This release is solid all the way around. Good music, nice jacket, claims it is AAA. There is a small artifact on the second track in the right channel, at first I thought it was soft brushes but I think it’s the tape. Otherwise a very well pressed offering and the sound is top notch.

I will be breaking drown and getting the boxset, I think, who knows!

This album is no exception. Sounds incredible. Distinct, wide, and alive. My issue is the album is missing a couple of tracks, specifically Cocktails For Two. Love that song and wish it was here.

The album cover makes you think west coast jazz and the liner notes make reference to Bill Evans. You definitely get those feelings when listening to this album. Kudos to Yarlung for lining up Bernie Grundman and Steve Hoffman to help. Very well done.

IT'S A SHOW STEALER, LADIES AND GENTLEBEN

Posted Thursday, April 8, 2021 by S. Madon Gentle Ben serves up some of his most deeply felt blues and ballads, very gently supported by the Tete Montoliu (great pianist) Trio. Recorded in Barcelona in Nov 1972, just 10 months before Ben's death. This is simply a beautiful record. Listen to the two numbers by Gershwin that Ben plays with a heart as big as his breathy style on the reeds. Freaking choked me up in parts, I must say. His playing on the tenor sax was so expressive on Gershwin's "How Long Has This Been Going On" that I swear I could hear him singing the words to that song. And so I repeat that old cliche, "They don't make players like this anymore!" Ben was greatly respected amongst his peers and like many such artists in the mid- 60s moved to Denmark where he developed a huge following and played at the amazing Montmarte club, often with Tete's trio. Tete's amazing piano work is prominently featured here too. Treat yourself to a gentle evening with this Gentle Ben.
