"Dark rumbles and bittersweet melodies portend brooding mystery and unstable romance." — The Absolute Sound
"The saxophonist channels the circumspection and the longing of the 1955 film's original soundtrack into a watery, wandering melody." — The New York Times
"Preminger Plays Preminger adds to the tenor player's epic catalog of soul-satisfying musical brilliance." — Jazz Times
Preminger Plays Preminger is an album based on and adapted from the films of the great film director, Otto Preminger
The idea to record this album had been with Noah since he was in high school, when his aunt, who taught a film studies class, first screened Anatomy of a Murder for him.
And the musicians on this album feel so dialed in — like a collective recital of some foundational American myth. There's a heaviness to this album. Not a ponderousness, but rather an element that speaks of a second truth behind the music.
Featuring Noah Preminger on tenor saxophone, Jason Moran on piano, Kim Cass on bass, and Marcus Gilmore on drums.
Musicians:
Noah Preminger, tenor sax
Jason Moran, piano
Kim Cass, bass
Marcus Gilmore, drums
