Great modern eclectic jazz-pop record

Posted Wednesday, October 8, 2025 by RT Do not sleep on this release! Cecile is a truly under-heralded, modern American musical treasure. "Oh Snap" is her 8th album and represents a progression in her artistry. The album is lyrically and vocally surprising, varied and very ear pleasing. The production is all around wonderful - helmed by the up and coming Jack DeBow (who is a producer to watch). Together, Cecile (who composes most of the tracks) and DeBow just work! They have assembled a great cast of players who bring to life Cecile's mercurial vision into a cohesive and absorbing set of music. Put it on and just let it lead you. If you are a fan of great chanteuses like Ella Fitzgerald/Sarah Vaughan/Kate Bush/Dionne Warwick then Cecile will be right up your alley. One of the best releases of 2025.

Have an original but it must be at my brothers house so not able compare but I do have the Speakers Corner version which is great but this wins no issue. Such a well produced, written and played album. Music 9/10 Pressing 9.5/10.

whats up with the piano

Posted Friday, September 26, 2025 by david schacherl i've been so stoked about this but after listening to the two preview tracks online recently, it would sound as if the piano is woefully out of tune on this recording.

If you find the moments where Horace solos... the comping on his left hand just sounds like an abomination! everything else about this is so cool and exciting from the tracklist to the photography and cover art... its really top notch, i just cant get past the piano... it's a real bummer.

Sonically, WOW! The pressing is silent, which is normal for these QRP-pressed Pablos. They seem to choose albums with lots of quiet sections just to show off or something, it's that quiet. The mastering is also excellent; Lutthans is great at what he does.

Just a wonderful record all around. I'll cherish this one forever.

This is a slightly hotter transfer than the Fleetwood Mac Blu ray Audio disc also available here. I listened to these back to back using the 5.1 DTS-HD MSTR "layer" and I had to turn this one down. 5.1 Surround mix is good to go. Cant comment on the Atmos mix.

Unfortunately, there are soooo many artifacts… such a contrast against such a wonderful mastering. The bass and drumming is beyond anything I’ve heard on any other ‘Crime’ over the years. ‘Dreamer’ is a revelation on this. Amazing. Acoustic Sounds produces the best records. Please UHQR this.

An essential mid career album

Posted Sunday, September 14, 2025 by RT Hidden amongst the vast six decade long discography of the great Ray Charles is the gem known as Come Live Me from 1974. Perhaps in its time it was out of tune with the market place but it 2025 it charms can really be savored. You'll appreciate the casual musical command on display - nine wonderful tracks that shows off Mr. Charles' skills as a producer, band leader and performer - a charming record with real musical depth that warrants repeated listens. This remaster brings out the layers in every track and has great fidelity. While not audiophile-quality, I am very pleased with the sound presentation and content with the no frills packaging - this is value priced. Overall these Tangerine label reissues are worth copping, particularly for Ray Charles fan as they cover a vital part of his career as an independent artist in charge of his music. Tip - for maximum enjoyment of CLWM, begin with side B!

Musically stellar and presented in pristine and vivid audio detail. Aretha's in the room and sounds as close to "reel". Great sound staging, separation of instruments and vocal placements. Quiet, flat vinyl and beautiful new photos on the inside jacket. Truly definitive.

Posted Saturday, September 13, 2025 by Jimmy James Very BRIGHT sounding transfer. Like in your face bright. I would have thought the drums and bass could be punched up a bit more and the treble/high frequencies could have been equalized down. Still good just not as good as it could have been.

The mix favors Bud Shank and he is way too loud. A lot of space on this disc is occupied by Bud's horn so be prepared. Their take on Chick Corea's SPAIN is especially good and closes out the session.

Posted Monday, September 8, 2025 by DCBRN Overall an improvement in listening enjoyment as compared to my original pressing. Absolutely clean and quiet vinyl. Nuances are realized with definition beyond the original. It’s not as good as the best UHQR records. Nor is it fair to compare with the Atlantic 75 series. Acoustic Sounds issues are often the best. This recording is a little compressed, with not as much ‘air’ as the original. However, the overall sound quality is very good and I’m happy with my purchase.

Posted Sunday, September 7, 2025 by Thomas Spitzer Historic album in a number of ways. I've had it on vinyl for about fifty years, bought it used for $7 long ago, and it was in fair shape. So it was nice to get a version that you can hear. The performances are mixed. As it says on the cover, Johnny Hodges died unexpectedly during the recording process, and he was one of the stars of this iteration of the band. There's a somber tone throughout, though the theme is a celebration of New Orleans in the history of great American music. Russell Procope presents himself admirably on a number of the tracks, Norris Turney did some nice flute work, and Harry Carney got a feature or two on baritone. About the recording, you can play this in four channel and two channel. My recommendation is to listen to the two channel mix. The four channel sends a lot of sound to the surround speakers, which does not sound natural to me. My surround processor created a better ambient mix with the two channel input as source.

It does seem to sound different than I remember the original pressing sounding, a tad softer in the lower end...but it is a 50+ year old recording so the fact that we can even get a fresh release on SACD, it's decent enough.
