The Eddy Arnold tribute album featuring interpretations of Eddy's timeless hits
Album download included
Punk legend Cheetah Chrome and author/music historian/professor Don Cusic have produced an album of rock, indie, roots, country and pop musicians interpreting timeless songs by Eddy Arnold, one of the most influential country musicians of all time. You Don't Know Me: Rediscovering Eddy Arnold puts the focus on Arnold's 70-year career as a songwriter and hitmaker and will be released on Plowboy Records, the label co-founded by Arnold's grandson. Several songs were recorded at famed RCA Studio B in Nashville — where Arnold recorded many of his signature songs.
Eddy Arnold did more than perhaps any other musician to expand the boundaries of country music in the 20th century, a fact reflected in the range of artists on You Don't Know Me: Alejandro Escovedo, Lambchop, Frank Black, Melinda Doolittle, Chuck Mead, Bobby Bare Jr, Jason Isbell, Mary Gautheir, Drivin' n Cryin', Bebe Buell, Pokey LaFarge, Peter Noone and more.
Known the world over as The Tennessee Plowboy, Eddy Arnold is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Grand Ole Opry. He released more than 100 albums and placed 147 songs on the Billboard country music charts, including 28 No. 1 hits. He had at least one charting single for the past seven straight decades, hosted "The Eddy Arnold Show" for CBS, guest hosted Johnny Carson's Tonight Show and starred in two films. "You Don't Know Me," a song he co-wrote, has became a standard, recorded by Ray Charles, Elvis Presley, Van Morrison, and countless others.
Plowboy's founders are Arnold's grandson and musician Shannon Pollard, author, professor and music historian Don Cusic, and Chrome. You Don't Know Me: Rediscovering Eddy Arnold is Plowboy's second full length release.
"For the last few years, I had been trying to figure out a way to get my grandfather's music to new audiences and I knew that it would need to be a project that was a bit different. With the help of Don and Cheetah, these wonderful artists and the incredible session musicians and engineers, I believe we have accomplished our mission. You don't have to be just a country music fan to enjoy this music and with this record we have proven that. The artists span multiple genres and eras, so there is definitely something for everybody, but what ties it all together are these great songs. Like other great singers, Eddy Arnold was famous for his ability to pick a great song. When he found the right one, he lived with it long enough to make it his. That's another reason why this record is so fun. Each of the artists respected that tradition and in doing so are paying Eddy Arnold the ultimate tribute." - Plowboy's Shannon Pollard
