The Collection
Bassist and composer Martin Wind's Stars (Jan. 30) captures a rare meeting of kindred spirits — a stellar quartet that includes Kenny Barron on piano, Anat Cohen on clarinet, and Matt Wilson on drums. With a setlist combining Wind originals and revered standards, Stars captures the warmth, spontaneity, and deep mutual respect of seasoned masters.
Acclaimed trumpeter Ingrid Jensen presents Landings (Feb. 27). Joining Jensen in music that is vibrant, swinging and richly textured are Gary Versace (organ), Marvin Sewell (guitar), and Jon Wikan (drums), plus a guest appearance by tenor saxophone legend George Coleman on "Amsterdam After Dark." Jensen's lyrical and adventurous trumpet lines navigate a landscape of intricate compositions and improvisational freedom, swinging as hell yet always searching.
Pianist, composer, and label director Elan Mehler's Renee Said (March 17) brings together a seven-piece ensemble including Loren Stillman (alto saxophone), Scott Robinson (tenor saxophone), Ben Monder (guitar), Tony Scherr (bass), and Francisco Mela and Matt Wilson (drums). This ambitious recording balances eight originals with two covers of Paul Motian and Frank Kimbrough, capturing a completely unique band in full creative flight.
Seer (April 24), a deeply immersive work from saxophonist Loren Stillman, showcases three of today's most remarkable voices in jazz, including Craig Taborn (piano), and Thomas Morgan (bass). Stillman's distinctive alto and soprano saxophone voice is complemented by Taborn's harmonic sophistication and Morgan's lyrical depth. The result is music that is meditative, precise, and profoundly expressive — an intimate and compelling statement.
The collection closes with Skúli Sverrisson and Bill Frisell's For All Your Flowers (August 1). Building on the critical success of their 2018 collaboration Strata, this duo recording finds the pair further refining a sound entirely of their own. Sverrisson's intricate bass work supports Frisell's signature guitar voice, yielding an intimate, transformative dialogue that is both tender and expansive.
All five albums were recorded and mixed with care by Marc Urselli (and Rocky Russo on select sessions), mastered by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab, and plated and pressed at Quality Record Pressings, ensuring that the sonic quality of each release is as exceptional as the music itself.
Newvelle Ten Collection represents a decade of dedication to uncompromising artistry, remarkable collaborations, and a unique vision of vinyl as a medium for immersive musical experiences.
