The Pogues — Red Roses For Me
40th Anniversary Edition LP on recycled red vinyl
After four decades, Red Roses For Me is still celebrated as a groundbreaking debut album from the Celtic punk band from London, an unlikely group of supposed ne'er-do-wells. It mashes traditional songs and instrumentals — about death and drink, love and London — with those of frontman Shane MacGowan's — and all fueled by the punk ethos. Irreverent, powerful, unique and spirited, this album was the beginning of an incredible and unflinching journey for a London-Irish band. This recycled red vinyl contains the 2013 remix of the album.
"What set the Pogues apart from any number of other energetic Irish traditional bands was the sheer physical force of their performances, the punky swagger of their personalities, and Shane MacGowan's considerable gifts as a songwriter...on their first album, Red Roses for Me, the Pogues are in good form...Red Roses for Me is good and rowdy fun." — AllMusic
