I had high hopes for this one. Unfortunately, this pressing is dull and lifeless. Very flat, almost muddy. Mids are lifeless and the HF is boomy. Definitely needs subtractive EQ on the lows. The highs are also understated and get lost in a sea of low mids.
The digital version isn't so bad, but whatever they used as source material (digital master w/ limiting?) doesn't translate to vinyl.
This is Maverick/Rhino, however. Perhaps they can hand this to Rhino High Fidelity and do a proper vinyl release? There may yet be hope!
I hope as vinyl grows in popularity we can get more purpose-built vinyl releases. Remastered and put through the paces, analog masters or non- limiting digital masters? Something to pay respect to the recording process.
