Singer Oscar Wilson and harp master Joe Nosek front a sizzlin' set of Chicago Blues!
If you come to Oscar's Motel (Alligator Records), be prepared to be blown away by arguably the best Chicago Blues band in the land, The Cash Box Kings!
Singer Oscar Wilson was born right on what's known as Muddy Waters Drive (43rd Street in Chicago) in 1953. Junior Wells, Elmore James and Honeyboy Edwards used to go to his house for fish-fry jam sessions. Joe Nosek may be from Wisconsin and 21 years younger but blows a mean blues-harp and sings like he means it.
The unlikely pair — joined at the hip by a tighter-than-tight guitar/drums/bass/keyboard band — might've made their best album yet out of all eleven. Dig that hot duet with Deitra Farr on "I Can't Stand You." Thrill to blues star John Nemeth adding his own inimitable vocals on "I Want What Chaz Has." Dig the gospel groove of "Nobody Called It The Blues." And it's Christmas in April when they Chuck Berry-ize "Ride Santa Ride."
