Gobsmack Talks Decision to Make Lighting Up the Sky their last album — Billboard

Multi-platinum Grammy-nominated hard rock band Godsmack released their eighth and final studio album, Lighting Up The Sky, on February 24, 2023 via BMG. With more than 20 years of chart-topping success, the Boston rock band has cemented themselves as 21-century hard rock titans.

To date, they've accomplished a staggering 11 No. 1 singles at rock radio, enjoyed 20 Top 10 hits, have received four Grammy nominations and countless accolades throughout their tenure. Lighting Up The Sky (produced by Godsmack's own Sully Erna and co-produced by Mudrock) features the driving hard rock single, "Surrender."

"There's a time in everyone's life where we have to honor what we promised ourselves, when we arrive at what we set as a goal," frontman Sully Erna explained to Billboard from his home in New Hampshire. "This isn't ending. We're just ending one chapter in our lives, but we're opening a whole new chapter for our sunset years: to be able to create, now, a greatest hits show, and enjoy the rest of our career playing live, which is really what the reward is for all the work that we do in the studio."
