Material from Jimi Hendrix's last recording sessions
Plus takes and edits that have never been released!
Plated and pressed at Quality Record Pressings!
Electric Lady Studios, the brainchild of rock and guitarist legend Jimi Hendrix, and fledgling architect and acoustician John Storyk, was the first artist-owned recording studio upon its opening on Aug. 26, 1970. Half a century later it still stands as a fabled space in the music industry.
The Jimi Hendrix album project Electric Lady Studios: A Jimi Hendrix Vision slated to be released on Sept. 13, 2024 includes some of Hendrix's last recording sessions and features takes and edits in which 38 of the 39 tracks are previously unreleased. The audio portion was overseen by Eddie Kramer (Hendrix's long-time engineer) and archivist John McDermott of Experience Hendrix.
Each configuration also contains a Blu-Ray of the documentary; Electric Lady Studios: A Jimi Hendrix Vision which was was produced by Experience Hendrix President Janie Hendrix, veteran filmmaker George Scott and John McDermott. As well as including a brand new 5.1 mix of 20 tracks, none of which have previously been available in the format, the Blu-ray will also feature a brand-new documentary that explores the early days of Electric Lady Studios, the famous studio in New York, that has been used by a range of international artists since it opened and which Hendrix conceived of towards the end of his life.
The 20 newly-created 5.1 surround sound mixes include the entire First Rays Of The New Rising Sun album plus three bonus tracks ("Valleys Of Neptune," "Pali Gap," and "Lover Man").
The film incorporates new interviews — including Steve Winwood, recording engineer Eddie Kramer and Experience members Mitch Mitchell and bassist Billy Cox and original Electric Lady Studios staff members who helped Hendrix realize this dream — vintage footage and dozens of never-before-seen photos that tell the full story of Electric Lady Studios, from conception to completion in 1970.
Despite the many obstacles Hendrix and his compatriots faced — financial, flooding, and equipment-related — the studio has thrived for more than a half century and served as the recording site for classic albums by AC/DC, The Clash, Chic, David Bowie, Stevie Wonder and hundreds more.
The documentary includes never-before-seen footage and photos as well as track breakdowns of Hendrix classics such as "Freedom," "Angel" and "Dolly Dagger" by recording engineer Eddie Kramer. The 5LP's were pressed on audiophile grade vinyl by Quality Record Pressings and the box set includes an extensive booklet filled with
unpublished photos, Hendrix's handwritten song drafts, and comprehensive liner notes.
