Fatoumata Diawara ('Fatou') had built a hugely successful career in dance, film and stage, before she bought a guitar and began to develop her own unique music; composing, arranging and playing (she is a self taught guitarist) her own material. The resulting debut album Fatou, released in 2011, has made waves around the world — receiving global critical acclaim and topping the world music charts for six months. Guests on the record include Tony Allen on drums, Toumani Diabaté on kora and even Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones on bass.
