Vince Gill - Okie

Vince Gill is returning to his roots both personally and musically for his forthcoming new album Okie.

Gill took the title of the album from a term that was once used in a derogatory fashion to disparage Oklahomans who were forced to migrate from Gill's home state to the West Coast during the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression. Gill is re-defining the term on the new album, which, according to a press release, "embraces his roots and explores some of the most important issues of our time."

"I thought this was going to be a songwriter record, not a concept album," Gill states. "It wound up being more information than I'd envisioned. A friend sent me an email saying, ‘You could have only written this record after living a 60-year-plus life.' He said, ‘There's no struggle in these songs, just truth and your experience.'"

Gill has previewed one of the tracks from the new album, "When My Amy Prays."
