Eugene Fodor & Alexander Peskanov - Tchaikovsky: 1812 Overture

The 1812 Overture, Telarc's all-time best-selling recording, is an audiophile's dream. The superb playing of the Cincinnati Pops under the baton of Erich Kunzel combined with Telarc's sound effects make this an unbeatable performance! The bells heard on this recording are those of the Emery Memorial Carillon, recreating the tumultuous clangor of church bells which Tchaikovsky envisioned. In order to capture the most authentic recording, three nineteenth-century cannons, owned and manned by the Fifth Virginia Regiment, were utilized, and to capture the perfect cannon sound, a total of twenty-four different charges with sixteen shots of varying sizes were exploded and recorded, as required in Tchaikovsky's score.

WOW make sure you don't have the volume on 11 posted on 07/07/2021 5 Stars Reviewer: John E. I bought this on a recommendation of an audio publication. Great recording and when things are this clean I tend to turn it up more than usual. I was sitting back really enjoying this one and then the cannon went off. The Crack was so dynamic I leapt for the volume and thought I had destroyed my speakers. Speakers were fine and I just had to laugh. I have never heard a recording with the dynamics this one possesses, of course most music does not have a well recorded cannon going off. I suspect this ( my) experience is system dependent.
