One of the great jam session recordings of the 1950s, All Night Long was under the relaxed direction of Kenny Burrell. The guitarist gathered together some of the finest young players on the New York scene, including Donald Byrd on trumpet and tenor saxophonists Hank Mobley and Jerome Richardson, one of the unsung heroes of the flute in jazz. Mal Waldron, Doug Watkins and Arthur Taylor were the rhythm section. The musical formats were uncomplicated; "All Night Long" a blues with a bridge, Waldron’s "Flickers" a 16-bar pattern, Mobley’s two originals based on familiar 32-bar chord sequences. From these simple, classic bases were launched performances with the hallmarks that have long identified any Burrell project: Relaxation, swing and high standards of musicianship.

Hey! I Got Mono! posted on 08/27/2012 5 Stars Reviewer: Ryan OK, we've all bragged about how many channels our surround sound system can support, 5.1, 6.1, 7.1, 9.1. But have you ever heard somebody say 'I Got MONO!(without being in the hospital)'. After listening to All Night Long you'll have something to brag about for sure! For some reason I thought mono would be a flat and dead sound, I mean C'mon mono? I was amazed by the 3D sound coming from this record. It's magical how the horns jump out in front. The drums are tight and provides (for me anyway) the overall size of the stage (moderately intimate meaning not Norah Jones intimate). Drums always have provided a sense of space for me. You should be able to hear the difference of a drum in a small vs large space. The record was pretty clean of pops and ticks, though not perfect. My side 1 had just a bit more than side 2. But this is the nature of analogue. Very well done! Keep up the good work. Lets put the imports to shame, keep em' coming AP!
