Don McLean is one of America's most enduring singer-songwriters and is forever associated with his classic hits "American Pie" and "Vincent (Starry, Starry Night)." Prepare yourself for his newest studio album — Botanical Gardens. The album features 12 new songs and two bonus tracks, and is his first new studio release in more than eight years.

The collection finds the famed singer/songwriter reflecting on love and aging, as well as reminiscing about his youth.

"The inspiration for the project started years ago when I would walk in the beautiful gardens in Sydney, Australia, near the Opera House," McLean explains. "I would dream young dreams and it was a comfort and an inspiration. I was always young inside, like we all are, and I felt it again there." He adds that the entire album "really revolves around the title song, noting, "Later on, I realized that the gardens are really a metaphorical heaven, and there's a kind of death and rebirth."

Botanical Gardens was recorded with his backing band at Watershed Studios in Nashville.

McLean recently was presented with an award from performing-rights organization BMI certifying his classic 1971 songs "American Pie" and "Vincent," respectively, with 5 million airplays and 3 million airplays.

Since first hitting the charts in 1971, Don has amassed more than 40 gold and platinum records worldwide; in 2004 he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. His songs have been recorded by artists from every musical genre, most notably Madonna's recording of "American Pie" in 2000, which was a hit worldwide.
