A Must For Trane-ists

5 Stars
Posted Monday, November 4, 2019 by Anthony Ok, let's get this out of the way-the "newly discovered, previously unreleased" music on this album has all been recorded before on other Coltrane releases. Still it's nice to have another Coltrane record on the shelf, and I never get tired of hearing Naima. This music was performed for the French film, Le chat dans le sac, a beautiful film in its own right. and are freshly done. Blue World is a nicely produced effort and has great sound quality. I recommend both the movie and the album.

Sorry Acoustic, the vinyl on these new Impulse records is bad!

Posted Monday, October 21, 2019 by Cliff This is the third record I have bought as part of this new 'wave' of European records, and they are horrible. I returned the other two, Gil Evans out of the Cool and Oliver Nelson. The vinyl is soft, it comes warped, scratched, with blemishes from the vinyl not properly cooling, and the sound is horrible. I have returned all three AIMP series records of recent. I don't recommend these Czech or Holland made records.. Very disappointing. I've heard the same from other buyers and stores. Need a better vinyl formula, a little harder and better supply chain. Not to mention sound quality.

Sonically too compressed

Posted Thursday, January 4, 2018 by Anonymous The Bill Charlap Trio’s Uptown, Downton is one of the loudest jazz albums I’ve ever heard. It sounds nothing like a vintage recording in the era of tube microphones and mixing consoles. The sound of the album is rather hard, with a general lack of dynamics. Charlaps’s piano dominates while the drums and especially the acoustic bass take a backseat in the mix. The piano’s high registers also are noticeably grainy and rather fatiguing on my Sennheiser HD650 headphones. The performance of the musicians on this record is excellent (and would make a great background album for a cocktail party) but I cannot recommend it due to the compressed and unnatural sound.

Love the music, not the pressing

Posted Friday, May 26, 2017 by wownflutter I've had this on CD for some time. When I seen this on vinyl, I had to get it. The mastering is far from top notch. I guess you get used to Mofi and AP lp's and many regular releases just sound dull in comparison.

The vinyl has pops throughout. No impressed at all. Sounds like it was pressed at United or something.

Posted Thursday, November 9, 2006 by Markus Berzborn A true Coltrance classic and a must for any serious jazz collection. While sonically not quite on the level of Classic Records or Analogue Productions, this Impulse reissue certainly sounds above average and can be recommended.
