Fantastic reissue

5 Stars
Posted Wednesday, March 1, 2017 by Kurt I bought all four Neil Young titles from the 'Discs 5-8 Box Set' in individual 140-gram versions, and though some weren’t perfectly flat or perfectly centered, they were all dead quiet and sounded excellent. "On the Beach" looks like the original (with the same inner sleeve and floral pattern inside the jacket). Only difference is the bar code and Official Release Series stamp on the back. All four have “CB” in the dead wax, so presumably they are pressed using the same remaster by Chris Bellman. Recommended.

Posted Thursday, September 8, 2016 by audiofan Not sure why these re-issues are on "140-gram" (feels like 120, but who's weighing) but the vinyl, like the cardboard jacket, is undoubtably thinner to save them/us money. Not to worry - this pressing, despite a VERY slight warp (which my record clamp resolved) sounds very warm, natural, and true to the original, with perhaps slightly inproved dynamics/transparency. Although I no longer have my original Reprise pressing to compare it to (I basically wore it out, but, let's face it, my system wasn't as good in the mid-70s, either), but in head-to-head listening with my copy of the German (?) import offered elsewhere on this site, I must say I prefer this "2016 remaster". For those who don't want to buy the entire limited-edition box-set, this vinyl was very quiet, without a pop, tic, or surface noise of any sort, and is a relative bargain, as well. A great-sounding LP for the money!

Beautiful

Posted Tuesday, November 24, 2009 by Anonymous To be honest, I was skeptical when I first heard about the Neil Young reissues. While many recent vinyl pressings have been fantastic, many have also been disappointing. Poor pressing quality seems to be a big problem nowadays.

Well, this reissue is simply superb. The sonics are breathtaking (a great LP to show off your system and/or demonstrate the superiority of analogue music), and the pressing is truly flawless.

Congratulations and a big thank you to Neil Young and the group who worked on this reissue. They've set the standard.

Truth be told, listening to this LP gave me goosebumps and damn near moved me to tears. Stunning.

Neil's Best Album

Posted Saturday, November 7, 2009 by Rick Ferro Too bad we can't buy this album in the DVD-Audio format. They issued Harvest and some of the other ones in DVD-A but this is my favorite one and it would really benefit from the surround sound quality.

Great pressing of a mediocore album.

Posted Sunday, October 25, 2009 by Anonymous Is this Neil's best effort? No not at all, and it's not even close. But it is an honest representation of his music and thought process in these times. Being a die-hard Young fan and having every LP he's released, it was a given that I'd buy this, and I must say the packaging and pressing of this album is brilliant!

I love that Classic isn't doing Young's vinyl releases anymore, although he now has full control to get these Japanese pressings done, which DO break the bank. Between Sugar Mountain, Deja Vu LIVE, and this it's close to $250! But once you drop your stylus you'll hear why, the pressing quality is unmatched.

This is a must have for any Neil Young fan!
