Pure Analog Done Right — Following Doug Sax’s Footsteps

Posted Sunday, August 23, 2026 by Mark I don’t own these yet, but based on the mastering trends I’ve heard from Gray and Grundman over the years, their polite chains consistently strip the life out of the music. That “audiophile-polite” approach cuts the balls out of the energy and rounds off the bite that classic jazz and blues actually needs. Combined with their polite mastering philosophy and the increasingly questionable sources being used today — often hi-res files derived from some analog tape — I’m even less interested in that direction, especially after the MoFi/Music Direct era showed how vague source descriptions can be. This Bluesville Series isn’t cut through their chains. It follows in the footsteps of Doug Sax’s philosophy: a pure, all-analog chain that preserves the attack, the tape texture, and the raw midrange presence that defines this genre. If you like blues, this is probably the best AAA remastering you can get today.

Ten tracks of some of the best blues guitar and soulful vocals you'll ever hear, PLUS the first of his releases to be on vinyl! If I hadn't watched Chad's weekly update on YouTube, I would have missed it, so I owe him one! This vinyl is 180g, quiet as a church and great music from start to finish. The latest batch was pressed at QRP so that should be the last incentive you need to add a copy to your collection! Don't miss out!

Posted Saturday, August 22, 2026 by Patrick Very nice record. Unfortunately I ad to return it as it was warped. Not massively but noticeably warped. In fact two of the four records I order on this order were warped and one of the the 3 records I purchased on my last order was warped. They replaced the one form the previous order but not this one and the other warped record from this order citing that the warp did not affect play. Instead of sending out new copies, they simply refunded my money. Ok. Cool. I guess. Not what I wanted but ok. When I asked them if I should just reorder, they said I could but that they would not accept a return if there was an issue. They suggested that I seek out a graded copy from an online marketplace. If purchasing brand new is not the end all and be all of "graded" copies, I don't know what is. At any rate, It seems they rather not deal with me so I'll take my business somewhere else like they suggested. Too bad because I'm really happy with the good copies of wha

Posted Thursday, August 20, 2026 by Joe I don't leave reviews often, but this version is outstanding. Before I even played the album all the way through, I had to put on “Adhesive” first. That alone left my mouth open. I honestly can't describe how amazing this version of Tiny Music sounds out of all the other releases i have. For reference, I'm playing it on an AT-LP120 with the stock replacement stylus, through a Pioneer Elite LX305 and Pioneer floor-standing speakers designed by Andrew Jones (2nd edition), along with Jones' two matching Pioneer subwoofers. You don't need an insanely expensive system to hear the incredible improvement in sound quality on this. I also have the SACD version that I haven't listened to yet, but if it's anywhere near this good, I'm sure I'll be just as happy with it. Point is: buy this while you can.

A Classic Favorite Back in the Collection!

Vinyl was not as well cared for in those days, so I jumped at the chance to add a good copy back to my collection. The overall quality of this release is very good. 180g completely flat vinyl, quiet playback with no noise anywhere and a nice job recreating a quality jacket. The only constructive criticism I have to offer (and the reason for only "4" stars) is the sound stage requires much higher volume than usually required on my system. I have a Rega P3 table with an Elys 2 cartridge played through a Cambridge Audio SR20 receiver and Wharfedale tower speakers. (Just as a reference). Overall, I'm pleased but feel stronger dynamics would have made this release even better.

Recording, dynamics, noise floor, pressing quality, soundstage Everything is probably the best ever made. Add to that a musical performance of impeccable beauty and virtuosity and quite frankly I have not heard better. If you are ar a vinyl purist, it doesn't get better than this. Finally at the price its a steal. The whole project is a sublime work of art

Because I grew up on McCartney and now I’m running as low on time as McCartney. This is quite a lovely collection of musical reminiscences, each song superbly crafted in the style of McCartney’s affinity for English popular standards. It’s one of those records that becomes an instant favorite on the second listen. McCartney sings like an 80-something yo man … and he crafts songs in that range perfectly. Maybe I’m long past 64 and old man music is starting to resonate with me, but this is really, really good. The sound is top quality, but the pressing is purely amateur-noisy vinyl. XX-2, MT-10, C-2300, monoblocked MC- 275’s, SP-100 in teak, lots-o-tweaks

Best Sounding Pressing I've Heard!

Once it went on the table and began playing, I was smiling from ear-to-ear. Ultra-quiet with crystal-clear sound on every track. Baker Street sounded better than ever and tracks like "Island" offered real listening pleasure. Parlophone did a great job on the vinyl, the jacket and the etched D side was a nice touch. Finally, the price was too good to pass up. This one brings a lot of "bang for the buck"! Thanks to Acoustic Sounds for always offering the best and the fast, safe shipping!

My 2nd copy contains about 30 seconds worth of clicks at the end of the first side as well but not as annoying as the first (I can live with it). But "Optimal" should think about changing their name to "Sub-optimal".

While Mofi have personally acknowledged it, they didnt give a concrete solution or timeframe for one, except to acknowledge they are looking into it. Hopefully, it will get resolved and when it does i hope to give this 5 stars just as the other Mofi 2x45rpm Doobie titles have easily earned!

Posted Friday, August 7, 2026 by DCBRN Yes. JD Souther a great songwriter. But this sounds unfinished, as if the production stopped short. Studio work has the opportunity of refinement. Think Steely Dan. This seems at times like it doesn’t know quite what it wants to be. Is it folk, is it rock, is it songbook? When these influences come together it can be magical. But not on this record. Here it’s only clumsy. Among other things, it has this big overwrought bass with a percussive quality above strings and vocals, when an acoustic bass may have been the better choice. Or even an acoustic bass utilizing a bow. As it is, some of the production is out of proportion, lacking refinement. The overplayed Eagles sound nuanced by comparison. Black Rose is a product of the mid 70s, probably compromised by the production and business model of the day. Acoustic Sounds pressing is perfect.

This is the no holds barred the epitome of what vinyl can be. Dead silent, no clicks or pops, incredible dynamic range and frequency response, plus, superb virtuoso musical performances. Amazing! An utter bargain.
