Fleetwood Mac - Rumours

 (Japanese Import)

Fleetwood Mac's classic on Hybrid Multichannel SACD!

Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums of All Time — Rated 26/500!

A fine offering from one of England's oldest bands, this album mixes a generous blend of pop and rock that appeals to both sexes: Women like it because it is "listenable," men like it because most of the songs are borderline romantic without being mushy.

Nineteen times platinum in the U.S. alone, Rumours is one of the best-selling albums of all time. This Diamond Award winning, Grammy "Album Of The Year" masterpiece includes the hits "Dreams," "Go Your Own Way" and "You Make Loving Fun." Japanese pressing.

This is my first ever Japanese SACD purchase. This SMOKES my old vinyl version of Rumors. The mastering provides much better clarity and detail (my vinyl copy sounds like it was recorded with towels over the mics), the SACD eliminates vinyl pops and ticks. Better yet I don't have to turn it over half way thru. OK, seriously, this is a 5 star version of a classic from Fleetwood Mac worthy of an audiophile collection.

A Classic remastered to extreme perfection.

The life of an audiophile is a relentless pursuit of perfection. The mastering is SPECTACULAR and the righteousness of this album lives on. This is a highly recommended SACD regardless of price your audiophile stereo system will rejoice.

Just like the 45 rpm

I'm pretty certain that the same master tape was used for the 45 rpm version and this SACD. I've listened to both, and they sound the same. Additionally, the 45 rpm was released in April 2011, while the SACD was released in September 2011. So you see, it's almost a certainty the same master tape was used.

As such, my review for the 45 rpm was very high - it is the best version of Rumours I've ever heard. Additionally, the records themselves were almost perfectly quiet. Thus, if you buy the 45 rpm or the SACD, you will get the same experience,

There is one small difference between the 45 rpm and this SACD. In the song Gold Dust Woman you hear yelling (possibly from an audience member or perhaps from the band itself). That yelling is not on this SACD. Nonetheless, the versions of that song sound the same (that yelling may have been on a separate track they could easily remove).

Overall, the SACD is essentially perfect as there is no surface noise at all.

Stereo - 5 stars / 5.1 Mix - 0 stars

The GOOD: The stereo layer is amazing. I have been listening to this record since 1977. The stereo soundstage is distinct and spacious. It is worth the purchase just for the stereo layer. This is everything I thought this record should sound like. It sounds great turned up real loud. Stereo warrants 3 stars.

The BAD: The 5.1 mix is a mess. Instruments that were never there were mixed in. The vocal mixes are all over the place. Mick’s drums have all but disappeared. Someone really liked Stevie Nicks because her vocals are way up in the mix. Sometimes it even sounds like an alternate vocal take was used. There is extra reverb on the vocals & instruments that drown out the rest of the mix. John McVie’s bass is boomy and sounds unnatural. This is the worst 5.1 mix I have ever heard. Who decides to wreck one of the greatest rock albums of all time? This record did not need "fixing". I know Ken Callut, who engineered the original album, mixed the 5.1 version; but he did not do

Amazing SACD

Not a big Fleetwood Mac fan. I've heard this album plenty in a variety of formats over the years. It has been overplayed on radio for decades. I bought this SHM SACD after seeing so many positive reviews of this particular SACD release. Wow! I'm hearing things on this SACD I've never heard before despite hearing these songs so many times before. It is very noticeable to the point it has revived this recording for me. Whether you are a Fleetwood Mac fan, an audiophile, or a surround music fan, this one is a winner.
