Melophobia (meaning the hatred or fear of music) the band's third studio album, was recorded in Nashville and reunites the band with longtime producer Jay Joyce.

Cage The Elephant's previous album Thank You Happy Birthday debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Top 200 and has sold more than 250,000 units to date. In addition, the band's self-titled debut is certified gold, remaining on the Top Billboard 200 Chart for an impressive 73 consecutive weeks, and spawning three Top 5 singles at alternative radio. The second single off Thank You Happy Birthday, "Shake Me Down," held the No. 1 spot at Alternative Radio for six consecutive weeks and rang in at No. 2 on both Billboard's Year End Rock Songs and Alternative Songs charts!

Cage was voted The Best New Artist of 2011 by Rolling Stone. The publication also ranked Thank You Happy Birthday the 15th best album of the year and called the group "... one of rock's best young bands." The band has toured with Foo Fighters, Black Keys, Stone Temple Pilots and Silversun Pickups in addition to their own sold-out headlining run.
