Mastered by George Marino at Sterling Sound

"...the third (Billie Holiday album) to receive the two-disc 45 RPM treatment by Analogue Productions. ... Billie sounds like she's at the microphone in your living room. The instruments are spread out between the speakers and there is plenty of depth. A pristine original has a bit more pronounced vocal sibilance and air, and this reissue smooths that out a bit. That aside, this is a fabulous reissue of essential music. Highest recommendation." — Recording = 9.5/10; Music = 10/10 — Dennis D. Davis, Hi-Fi +, Issue 95

"...these are all truly classic Verve titles that you simply don't want to miss...most importantly, the sound of these reissues is nothing short of astounding. Particularly the early Billie and Ella mono records are incredible treasures of sonic beauty. I'd definitely ask Santa for the whole set, or, if you want to cherry pick, the most classic titles. Whatever you decide, you owe yourself at least a half dozen!" Winner of a 2012 Positive Feedback Online Writers' Choice Award - Danny Kaey, Positive Feedback Online, November/December 2011

After the publication of her autobiography, Lady Sings The Blues, Billie Holiday was doing good business in clubs in what turned out to be a last burst of stardom. We cannot know why she stopped recording for Norman Granz after January 1957 - but the present collection is a magnificent culmination of her years with the producer.

Originally released in 1955.

OMG I am absolutely floored by this pressing. This has jumped to the top of my favorite reissues by anyone. Analogue Productions have outdone themselves here. This mono tape sounds like it had never been played! The detail and presence of Miss Holiday put her right in front of you, every bit of emotion is rendered so intimately! It's like a private late night performance just for you! Everything is perfect, the dynamics, tonality of the instruments, balance. What a fantastic recording. This tops my prior fave, Songs for Distingue Lovers. Material is top notch. Pressings are silent, Jacket art is gorgeous. Even though it's not a gatefold, it's a beauty. What a treat and so worth the money. I'm delighted!

ABSOLUTELY STUNNING !!!!

This is one of the few reference albums that I have that can match Muddy Waters' Folk Singer for showing how good a piece of equipment can be. I never knew this album was so well recorded before. The music comes out of nowhere and the instruments have real meat in their tonality and "oomph". Billie's voice and the accompaniment have loads of subtlety.

OMFG!

There is a reason why artists like Billie Holiday are still loved years after they have left us. And albums like this are one of the reasons why we still listen to her. Classic songs that never go out of style, and that longing in the voice that can only mean Holiday. Then add the mind blowing 45 rpm pressing from Analogue Productions, and you have one memorable album. If you are a fan of female singers, you have to get this set. AP puts out some of the best lps I have every heard. If only ALL lps could be mastered and pressed with the same care. I hope there will be more Verve reissues in the future.

Nothing short of amazing. My system is particularly good for horns/jazz/vocals. I have 5 other of Holiday's Verve recordings: 2 Japanese vinyl re-issues (mono), an original Verve mono, and a Classic 200 gm re-issue. Until now the Japanese were my reference demos. Now, it's this. I can't believe I'd ever be spending $50 on a record, but this is money well spent. Right up there with with their 45RPM re- issue of Dexter Gordon's "Go!"
