David Axelrod — Songs Of Experience
Limited edition 140-gram vinyl LP reissue
Includes the original cover and back cover artwork
The second album by composer, arranger, and producer David Axelrod, Songs of Experience (1969) follows his acclaimed debut Song of Innocence. Recorded after the death of his son Scott, the album is a deeply personal meditation on mortality and spirituality. Once again drawing inspiration from the poetry of William Blake, Axelrod fuses orchestral arrangements with dark funk and cinematic jazz. The Wrecking Crew deliver dynamic performances, with standout tracks like "The Human Abstract" and "The Fly" (later famously sampled by DJ Shadow). Ahead of its time in tone and texture, this visionary album remains a cornerstone of experimental soul-jazz.
