Pink Floyd at Pompeii — MCMLXXII

Groundbreaking 1972 film directed by Adrian Maben

Capturing Pink Floyd performing an intimate concert at the ancient Roman amphitheatre in Pompeii, Italy

Digitally remastered from the original 35mm footage, with enhanced audio newly mixed in Atmos and 5.1 Surround Sound by producer/musician Steven Wilson!

Also features rare behind-the-scenes footage of the band beginning work on The Dark Side of the Moon at Abbey Road Studios

"Ever since my dad brainwashed me as a kid by playing The Dark Side of the Moon on repeat, Pink Floyd has been my favorite band. They are my "Beatles," deeply ingrained in my musical DNA. I first saw Pompeii in a grainy print at a local cinema. It made an incredible impression on me with its untethered and exploratory rock music made by four musicians that seemed to epitomise the notion of intellectual cool. It was an honor to remix the soundtrack to accompany Lana Topham's incredible restoration of the film, which looks like it could've been filmed yesterday." — Steven Wilson

Pink Floyd at Pompeii is a 1972 concert film directed by Adrian Maben featuring Pink Floyd performing at the ancient Roman amphitheatre in Pompeii, Italy. The band performs a blistering live set to an empty stadium, aside from themselves and the crew. The main footage is filmed in and around the amphitheatre over four days in October 1971. The film was re-released in 1974 with additional studio material of the band working on The Dark Side of the Moon, along with interviews at Abbey Road Studios.

Pink Floyd at Pompeii — MCMLXXII is an incredible document of a band on the cusp of superstardom. The film has been restored from the original 35mm cut negative from 1972 in 4K — meaning the scan is direct from the film that was rolling in the cameras on that hot day in Pompeii.

Filmed in October 1971 — without an audience — the performance was the first live concert to take place at Pompeii, and features "Echoes," "A Saucerful of Secrets," and "Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun," among others. The film has undergone a full restoration: hand restored, frame-by-frame, from the original 35mm cut negative — recently discovered within Pink Floyd's own archives.

Lana Topham, Director of Restoration for Pink Floyd, said: "Since 1994, I have searched for the elusive film rushes of Pink Floyd At Pompeii, so the recent discovery of the 1972 original 35mm cut negative was a very special moment. The newly restored version presents the first full (nearly) 90-minute cut, combining the 60-minute source edit of the performance with the additional Abbey Road Studios documentary segments filmed shortly after."

Steven Wilson has remixed the soundtrack in Dolby Atmos, 5.1 and stereo. The stereo mix features on the new 2LP vinyl set, while the Atmos and 5.1 mixes are included on the Blu-ray edition that includes two cuts of Pink Floyd at Pompeii: the 85- minute feature film and the 60-minute concert.
