Dave Edmunds is a Welsh singer-songwriter, guitarist and record producer. Although he is mainly associated with pub rock and new wave and had many hits in the 1970s and early 1980s, his natural inclination has always been 1950s-style rock'n'roll and rockabilly. Following the break-up of Love Sculpture, Edmunds had a U.K. Christmas number one single in 1970 with "I Hear You Knocking," a Smiley Lewis cover.
The association with Brinsley Schwarz led to a collaboration with Nick Lowe, which began with this album, and in 1976 they formed the group Rockpile with Billy Bremner and Terry Williams. Edmunds had other British hits during this time, including "Girls Talk" by Elvis Costello, "I Knew the Bride" by Nick Lowe, "Queen of Hearts" by Hank DeVito (later a bigger, international hit for American country-rock singer Juice Newton), "Crawling from the Wreckage" by Graham Parker and "Singing the Blues" by Melvin Endsley. This recording is from his 1982 tour, which was recorded in May at the Capitol Theater in New Jersey.
