New 10-track studio album on red vinyl from Amanda Shires
"Hawk For The Dove" is the first single from Americana Award-winning singer/songwriter and violinist Amanda Shires' upcoming album Take It Like A Man.
The virtuoso violinist shared a preview of the forthcoming LP by releasing "Hawk For The Dove" along with an accompanying music video. The record that is so unlike anything she has ever recorded that you would be tempted to think it was her debut album instead of her seventh.
Shires' new single showcases her saccharine vocals and heartfelt approach to the fiddle. "Hawk For The Dove" was produced by Lawerence Rothman, who plays the keyboard on the impassioned tune. The track was recorded at RCA Studio B in Nashville and sees backup vocals from Brittney Spencer, her Highwomen bandmates Maren Morris and Natalie Hemby, and her husband, Jason Isbell, rocking on the guitar.
Shires says she wanted to make a fearless confessional, showing the world what turning 40 looks like in 10 emotionally raw tracks.
Of the instrumentation provided by Isbell, Shires remarked, "This is the song where Jason finally had enough of the buzz in the studio and switched to a Gretsch." She added, "That was the moment he realized why Chet Atkins loved Gretsch guitars."
Shires said of the music video for her new track, "I want people to know that it's ok to be a 40-year-old woman and be more than just a character in somebody else's life. The song and the visual representation of the song deal with the emotions that turn prey into predators."
