Single LP reissue plus bonus 7-inch record
Between 1994 and 2003, Marshall Crenshaw recorded five albums for the Razor and Tie label. Now, the singer-songwriter is returning to those acclaimed works with revised editions coming on LP. Released in 1996, Miracle of Science was the seventh studio album from Crenshaw. He chose to solely produce the album and play many of the instruments himself.
This reissue package includes the original album and a bonus 7-inch record with two newly-recorded tracks, Crenshaw's renditions of "What The Hell I Got" and "Misty Dreamer." "Misty Dreamer" is by Scottish indie-pop artist Daniel Wylie, and "What the Hell I Got," is a 1974 number by Canadian artist Michel Pagliaro. The latter was a smash in Canada and a regional hit on Crenshaw's local hometown radio station CKLW-FM.
"Crenshaw's first studio effort for the indie Razor & Tie imprint also marks a return to his earlier, stripped-down approach of his debut album. Playing most of the instruments himself (including drums), there's a far more organic feel to the tunes presented here than his last major-label efforts. In addition to solid Crenshaw pop originals like "What Do You Dream Of?," "Laughter," and "Starless Summer Sky," his takes on Dobie Gray's "The 'In' Crowd" and the countryish "Who Stole That Train" also show him as always to be a prime interpreter of other folks' great songs as well." — AllMusic
