Philadelphia-born bassist Christian McBride is a master musician who has appeared on more than 300 records and 11 critically-acclaimed albums as a leader. When he arrived in New York in 1989 as a Juilliard student, he was the “Godchild of the Groove” with unlimited potential. He now reigns supreme as the "Lord of the Lower Frequencies." He's the influential and ubiquitous bassist of his generation, as evidenced by his quintet Inside Straight, his big band, his trio and his work with everybody from James Brown, Pat Metheny, Chick Corea and Wynton Marsalis to Sting, The Roots, Bruce Hornsby and Paul McCartney.

He is easily one of the most accomplished bass players alive. Here you'll experience New Jawn, which, translated from Philadelphian, could be described as McBride's "new joint."

His new chordless quartet includes trumpter Josh Evans, drummer Nasheet Waits and saxophonist Marcus Strickland, musicians that are regularly featured at Jazz at Lincoln Center and all over the city both as bandleaders and as sidemen with some of jazz's biggest names.

Fans of McBride's other small groups will surely love this ensemble, and its unusual two-horns, no-piano lineup gives it a unique flavor. With just bass and drums holding down the rhythm section, McBride and Waits provide as rich and driving a foundation as any group could hope for. On the band's eponymous debut, these four stellar musicians ably walk the razor's edge between thrilling virtuosity and gut-punch instinctiveness.
